Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I have a Swift 540 ( 3100kg) with a 1.9 engine and I've yet to find a hill that it cannot get up. I've been up and down the Pyrenees as well as the Alps. Three times over the Grossglockner in Austria and twice up Mount Etna, so I don't really understand your concern.
So what if it goes a bit slower up hills? Watch the queue behind you and on long inclines try and pull off occasionally to let them all pass. Just enjoy your trips, you see the scenery much better when you go slower
We have just been down to Narbonne and were surprised to notice that the fast dual carriageways we were travelling on through the Massif Centrale were reaching altitudes of over 1100m ( higher than snowdon). They have signs warning of decents giving the incline and length. Some of these descents went on for up to 10km.
It surprised us more as we hadn't expected to be crossing high areas. There were crawler lanes for slower vehicles.

The road down through Clermont Ferrand does get very high indeed, but somehow the ascents and descents are so long that you don't really notice how high you are getting. We were very surprised the first time, when we got to the Col de Fageole (which is near to St Flour) that the altitude was 1114 metres! Mind you, we did hit snow in that area in May one year, so not unlike the top of Snowdon!
