Set up a Nationwide flex account and then you won't be charged for withdrawals. I have one that I only use for holidays, hubby transfers money from his Llyods acccount into it before we go and you get a very good exchange rate.If you are able to open 1 tomorrow am should be up and running before you go.

We did ours in the same timescale - and our first use of the debit card was in France - which we thought was a bit risky, but everything worked fine. We do the same as dart18 - and just put enough money in to cover holiday spending, and then any surplus back out again when we get home.

I've just read this and registered for the telephone banking, we leave on Thursday lunchtime, it should be here by then, fingers crossed. Or it's the noting everything down in a notebook plan.

Surely if every body started doing this, Nationwide will start charging a commision and who could blame them!!!

My main current account is with Nationwide I set up a separate account for holidays and also have an easy access ISA with them into which a save a regular amount every month and then transfer into the flex acccount for holidays, this just helps me keep a better eye on finances while we are away> I don't see why I should be charged for taking out my money and surely this is good for Nationwide as it brings in new buisness.

I've got a Nationwide Flex account, On the front of the card at the top right, it says Visa and underneath that Debit.
I thought I could use this card to pay for purchases as well as withdraw money at ATM's, but the girl at Nationwide said she thought I couldn't use it abroad to pay for things. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
Thanks.

Yes you can use this to pay for purchases but it is a debit card so the money will come out of your acccount straightaway. I always take a credit card for any un forseen emergencies.

Nightrider, I'm sure they will eventually but in the meantime why not take advantage - after all the banks make billions out of us every year!
