Hi all.  Just returned from a very wet camping trip to the South Coast.  Having not planned anything for this year and went off on the spur of the moment I have decided to PLAN a trip for next year (because we always end up going no matter what). 

I've done a search for tips on ferries to Bilbao and all the posts are a couple of years old. 

Can anyone let me know which ferry companies do the UK to Bilbao (or Santander) and give me an idea of price.  The only company I've found so far is P&O and I have got an online quote of £840 (which I didn't think was all that bad).

I'm guessing if I took the cheapest ferry route (Dover Calais) it would take me a bout 4-5 days driving to get to northern Portugal?

I dont know if you shop at tesco as you can turn your club card vouchers are worth 4 times more against a P&O crossing to Bilbao, tht could save you a fortune. Friends went to Northern Spain two years ago and said the ferry was good even with two kids to amuse.

I have just tried p&o out of curiosity and the price for portsmouth to bilbao for a 4 berth inside cabin (may 2009) came out at £709.  A lot depends on dates and times of crossings.  We are thinking of holland next year using our clubcard vouchers to pay for harwich/hook of holland route, but might try sailing to bilbao the year after.
