I am off to Le Boucanet near Montpellier at the end of August - based on recommendations from this site. I was looking for a site with direct beach access (ie not crossing road), sandy beach and pool - this campsite ticks all the boxes.
Typically I would visit the Costa Brava, if you are looking for a pool and excellent beach, try Las Dunas, in my opinion Camping Aquarius is a nicer site, but has no pool. I prefer Las Dunas to Nautic Almata. You could also try Balena Alegre, I have not been there so cannot comment - This stretch of the Costa Brava is perfect for a family camping holiday, it has one of the best beaches in Europe, but is never crowded as the access is only through the camp sites. The only reason why I am not going this year is that having been nearly 20 times I feel that I ought to broaden my horizons.
One advantage of Le Boucanet is that it is 2 / 3 hours closer to Calais
