We've just returned from L'Etang de la Breche. Had a great time with just a few reservations (very British site, long way to drive)

I also like the look of La Garangeoire in St Julien des Landes, but that is also a long drive and I understand it is virtually impossible to get a pitch there unless you have been before.

So..does anyone know of any other cracking sites in Brittany, Normandy - nearer the ports? We would like the following:
Large pitches
Good pools for the children (slides etc)
Quiet at night (so I suppose not too large)
Good reviews!

Here's hoping.....

Have a look at Camping Mane Guernehue in Southern Brittany. Great slides and pool area, we found it very quiet at night and a good mix of nationalities. It's right by the sea but a bit of a drive to a good swimming beach. Some lovely cycling etc and fab boat rides round the gulf of morbihan. I believe they have just built an indoor pool too which is great for any less good days although we had wall to wall sunshine for two weeks when we were there a couple of years ago. There are also lots of great sites in Northern Brittany but the weather is usually not so good.

The pool here is not large but otherwise the site is excellent

The Garangeoire is huge and mostly British as is L'Orangerie de Lanniron and Chateau des Ormes.

Les Mouettes near Roscoff has huge water slides but never stayed here

Have a look at my review for Camping Du Poulquer in Benodet.

Coule of hours from Roscoff and just under 3.5 hours from St Malo

I managed to get a 7.5m van on a pitch although it was a little tight.

Have a look at Penboch - near Vannes. I've just posted a review on this site. Had great 2 weeks there, just arrived home yesterday.

Hi there

Would recommend www.laguyonniere.com it has amazingly large pitches if you choose them right - go for le criquet field or la ruelle basse for ones with massive playareas in the middle - it is in the Vendee - we went for three years on the trot and loved it - short drive to the coast - lovely family friendly restaurants in St Gille Croix de Ville - but the weather can be hit and miss - and it is dutch owned with many returning Dutch families - great unless you have young English kids who want to make friends - we drove in one day, even towing - but we are in Ashford, 12 miles from the tunnel.  Very fond memories of this site - but we keep going further now chasing the sun.  Lovely pool complex and very relaxed and friendly.  Enjoy choosing!
