You dont need a green card in Europe but contact your insurance co. to make sure your vehicle is insured fully comp for Europe as well as the UK. it wont be unless you have paid extra for European cover. Also make sure your breakdown/recovery insurance covers Europe as well.

That link is shocking! If you have fully comp in the UK and you want fully comp in the country you are going to you will usually need a green card. The exception being if your UK insurance already includes 90 days in the EU. If you follow that link you will have the basic Road Traffic Act cover in those countries and that might be a lot less than RT cover in the UK, which covers you against injuring other people but not against totally demolishing their Rolls Royce, starter chateau etc etc.

GReen card!! How old fashioned is that.  Just ring your insurer and tell them the dates and whether you are towing.  Remember to take your insurance doc with you and your ownership doc too. and keep them in the car just in case a bored gendarem asks but in 30 odd years holidaying in France I've never been stopped but I do know a bloke who spent a night in the cells after trying to argue his case over a motoring offence and he had no cash for the on the spot fine or cheques or cards.  Best to grunt in English and plead ignorance if stopped maybe.  Beware of low flyinf chicken chaser mopeds!!!

You definitely need your docs. We got hit by a kamikaze scooter in Calais, who decided that a compulsary right turn at the lights did not apply to him! So he hit our nearside wing as we correctly turned right! ( He whizzed up the inside).

He did a runner when I asked him for his details ( I speak reasonable french!)

We found a police lady who directed us to the police station. They were very helpful but the first thing they asked for ,was all our docs, which they photocopied. (Passport, license, reg doc. and insurance).

We had to look at the rogues gallery and make a statement. The scooter reg no was false!

They gave us a copy of the report to give to the car insurance Co.

Cost us a £100 excess.  The youths  are a pest on their scooters and mopeds!!
