We want to go to Brittany next year but want as much advice as possible.  We have never travelled abroad with our Caravan and see that ferry prices can be really expensive.  Are we best booking through the Caravan Club or booking independantly.  We want a site with a pool as our children are 7 and 5.  Is Plymouth Roscoff the best option?

Can anyone give me any tips on getting there cheaply and safely.

Thanks

I would check out the prices of both though we have travelled to France twice and used the C&C Club their prices have always been cheap.Went to Brittany via Plymouth Roscoff and it was our first time with folding camper found it really easy and you will too.went france 2 weeks ago via Dover Calais cheap crossing but found you lose out with all the extra miles you have to drive / overnight stop so next year we said we would do the Plymouth crossing or similar.
Once you have been camping in France you will not look back and will wish you had done it sooner.Fantastic roads to drive and tow ,much easier than UK ,friendly people ,better weather, food & scenery etc etc etc .Goodluck you won`t regret your choice ,if you have a sat nav makes the journey even easier .

Just got back last night from Brittany with our folding camper - its our third time there. We book throught the CC sailed plymouth roscoff but have done portsmouth st malo before.
Very long sail going - bit shorter coming home (plus got on there newest ship the Pont Aven - v nice!)
We stay at Camping Du Poulquer in Benodet - lovely site, new toilet block, 2 mins walk from beaches and town centre - plus if you go over the end of the French hols (last two weeks) you get to see the most amazing firework dislplay in the sea - puts disneyland to shame.
We're not going back to Benodet for a while now - only because we've seen everything now and want a change - going to the Vendee next year - but going to go on night sail to st malo and night back to portsmouth - that way your now bored on the boat and refreshed for another few hours driving - we live in lancs so its a good 6 hour drive down to portsmouth - if you got any questions just ask x

Look at LD Lines from Portsmouth to Le Havre as their prices are better than Brittany  Ferries and a lot of people using this site recommend them.

Hi,

We have just returned from two weeks in Quimper (Orangerie de Lanniron) and it was our first time with the van abroad.

The ferry trip Plymouth Roscoff was an 11pm departure and we had a cabin so sleep was a possibility (but not guaranteed!)

The ferry arrived in Roscoff at 7am and our journey down to Quimper was a non-event, the road signs excellent and the traffic (as ever in France) very light.

I personally would steer clear of a day crossing with kids, if they are ill, it could be a long six hours.

If the promised aqua park at Lanniron turns up next year, it would be ideal for you, there is a small pool at the moment, but it is a bit "tired" and lacking.

We also visited Du Letty, which seemed a good site, in a brilliant location, just a minutes walk from the sea, but one the banks of a sandy tidal estuary.

It was one of the best holiday locations we have ever seen and we spent quite a bit of time there, it was only 15 minutes drive from our site.

We will post a new review of Lanniron in a day or two.

hope this helps

Mr UM
