We are looking at going to the Costa Brava next year probably around L'Escala? Has anyone got any advice on campsites, routes,Ferries etc. There will be two families including 4 children ages ranging from 10 - 15 so we will need plenty to keep the kids happy. We haven't been to this area before but have looked at it due to the proximity to the French border. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Kaz.

Im going to watch this site with great interest. Im taking our family too.

I have ran speculative search on P&O ferry from Portsmouth to Bilboa and that already in at £839 with inside 4 berth cabin.

Im still trying to get through to CCC to see if they will give out any details prior to their brochre being published. you can view their online 2008 brochure here.

I dont know whether to go independent or book with the CCC for the piece of mind as I used them in France this year, one 5 minute phone call and they chenged my ferry details and rang me back.

All the best

Ive had my head in here for last hour working my way through some sites.

My criteria after a wet fortnight in France this year is, on or within 500 metres of a beach, within 50 miles of Barcelona, good facilities and if poss a pool.

We have just come back from Eldelfin verde http://www.eldelfinverde.com/  been twice now.

Fantastic site for teenagers, we have 3 lol

Direct beach access, close to Estartit to go shopping.  Showers ect cleaned all the time, pitches are huge. Shop well stocked and reasonably price bakery so fresh bread and cakes every day.

It does get very hot so loads of sun screen.

We travel on the euotunnel and drive down through France stopping a Disney and a stop close to Clearmont Ferand.

I know people who drive straight down but for us we like to enjoy the journey.

hope you find what you want

Last year we booked with the site direct, this year we booked through the Caravan Club and saved allmost £100.

We have stayed at Camping Nautic Almata at St Pere Pescador (sp?), just down the road from l'Escala twice now. The first time we took our camper; the second time we hired a tourer on site as we towed our boat down. Can't recommend the site enough!  The situation is lovely - it's arranged around a river which opens straight into the sea, so attracts a lot of boat owners. Different areas of the site have a slightly different feel: the area which is furthest away from the beach is quieter and shadier, whilst the area nearest to the beach is livelier!  There is direct access to the beach. The site is very well maintained with shops, immaculate washblocks etc.

The region itself is very interesting, with day trips to Barcelona possible. L'Escala itself is a very attractive town and the coastline is impressive.

Hope this helps!

Forgot to say - we travelled via Calais, on the morning ferry - around 7.45.  Our family are not too keen on long ferry journeys! Stayed overnight the night before at Premier Inn in Dover to break the journey. It is around 750 miles to Nautic Almata. We did one long day's travelling (around 8hrs) to get to Clermont Ferrand (there is a Formule 1 and Campanile just of the motorway), followed by a shorter second day. No problems, although towing over the Massif Central was an interesting experience!
