For those of you who've been away for August - this will be UK's gloomiest August since 1912, only about 45% of average sunshine hours.

We were away between 4th and 18th and only managed a week of sun, despite a six hundred mile drive to the Cevennes and Provence.

We've decided to have our main holiday in May/June next year. May/ June have been much nicer than August for a number of years now and after two washout August holidays in a row it's time to change the dates and see if that helps.

Now watch next year swap around and be vile until the end of July when it will be a heatwave!

If I had the choice, I would go away early/mid July - weather is generally good then.

got back today from 3 weeks in Biscarosse 2 mornings and 1 early evening of rain 1 cloudy day and the rest sunshine especially last week which was blue skies and temps of 30+ sitting here in jumpers and a glass of vin rouge not the same as this time last week,roll on next year.

May, June and September seem to be better dryer months, but always head south for the sunshine usually south of france

We have just spent 18 days in Normandy and barely saw the sun once. It very gloomy every day, but it hardly rained! We are going to go further South next year - and we're planning already - in fact, I'm going to post a question...

Just got back from 3 weeks away - seen about 2 hrs rain at Argeles and Sarlat areas. Surprisingly the last week Nr Sarlat was by far the hottest and sunniest of the weeks with at least 10hrs sun a day - could have been more but I wasn't awake at dawn.

Can i trouble you for some info? How long did it take to drive to Argeles, how much fuel did you use( type of car?) , how much did you pay out in tolls?
