We went to the vendee for two weeks this year (21st July to 3rd August). We had 2 days of rain. What was the weather like later on ? I am trying to decide whether or not to go to the med or not next year...!!
Many thanks

Just got back - was in the Vendee from 22-30th August
Weather was OK, only 1 day where it rained most of the day, mostly overcast though with a couple of belters... generally though much cooler than we had anticipated, due to the overcastness, tended to burn off by lunchtime and the evenings were nice.
To my mind the choice between Vendee and Med though isn't as straightforward as the sun - as far as I know you can't bodyboard on the Med and the surf at Brem Sur Mer was FANTASTIC!

Plus the cost of getting there - fuel, tolls etc and the length of time to get there. We are sticking with the Vendee next year as we have found a site we love which we can get to without losing an extra day off each end of the holiday and within a reasonable budget. Plus it's only 10 mins to that surf at Brem Sur Mer!

We were there 16th to 23rd and as before, mostly dry and warm, some really sunny days, some overcast and the occasional shower. All made up for by the aforementioned surf at Brem sur Mer! We only ever got 10 minutes in the surf at a time though, the lifeguards kept pulling everyone out when it got too hairy...

Next summer will be our third at Domaine de la Foret in St Julien des Landes which is about 20 mins from Les Sables d'Olonne and about 10 to 15 mins from the beach at Brem. There are several nice sites in the area, Le Pin Parasol and Le Garangeoire being a couple of the others. We like La Foret because it is a fairly small site (about 140 pitches) and has a lovely family feel. It's set around a small chateau and I think it's a very attractive site although some of the pitches can be a bit heavily shaded (hence the name I suppose) but you can always request a sunnier pitch. Many people have been coming back to the site for years and years and I think that speaks volumes.

We stayed at Pin Parasol this year for 2 weeks and as a site it is fantastic albeit quite large now. The pool complex is great, owners very friendly but they could do more in the evenings in the bar area that in the spirits line only stocks martini for some reason!
Whilst some will disagree, we felt that the new part of the site was better than the old as the pitches were larger, some with own services and the shrubs and trees maturing nicely. On the old part we found the pitches to be equivalent to threadbare carpets, very stony and where we were, in the shade nearly all day so the awning and pup tent struggled to dry after the nights rain or dew.
If we were to go back to the Vendee we would probably stay here again, but it is unlikely we will return to this part of France as to us, it felt too English.
Another two sites to consider. I take your point about the area feeling too English. For us the area looks attractive from the point of view of the mix of being near the sea and also plenty of places to visit inland too.
We live in the South of Scotland and intend going via Calais and any further south the the travelling takes up too much of the holiday.

We went to Jard sur mer from 6th to 14th August. The weather was ok initially and then very overcast. It then rained very heavily on the sunday, and big storm on the monday night, rain tuesday and then we went home early! I don't think the weather is guaranteed and when its wet there is very little to do. I believe the weather was better lower down - Royan.
