Hello, thinking about a trip to Germany to see my cousin, she lives in Lauenforde and I'm wondering if anyone has camped nearby and if so what are the sites like to stay at, any recommendations.

Also, are their electric hook ups the same as the UK, we have the proper round electric hook up with plenty of cable and a 3 plug socket with cut off etc but is it universal for Europe or do we need to buy an adaptor to fit their plug in points?

I found this on Germany but nothing on Lauenforde.

This campsite seems to be about 33 miles away http://www.campingplatz-dransfeld.de/ although I am sure you could find one a bit nearer. I am about to add a review of this site on here so perhaps have a look in about a week. As far as site plugs we have recently stayed at 10 campsites in Germany during may and June and I am pretty sure they all had the standard blue CEE17 plug fitting. Even reverse polarity did not seem to be a promblem. However I would always advise taking a Continental adaptor just in case which will cost you about a fiver. If you want to see where we visited on out trip follow the link at the bottom of the post.

Heres another vote for ACSI .

Been to Germany a few times but not where you are going so sorry cant help with a site but it is a good idea to get an adapter for the EHU. They are cheap and dont take up much room and may not be needed but if you dont take one then you will need it and there will be a tiny store where you can get one that costs 3 times the price. Sods law :)

We camped in Erbingerode which is in the Harz mountains not too far from Lauenforde(according to Multimap anyway). A wonderful site with good facilities for campers and caravans. Also not far away is the town of Wernigerode which also has a campsite although we didn't stay there due to inaccurate information by the local tourist office in Wernigerode(they said it was closed). The tourist office apologised afterwards! The Harz is a lovely spot very reminiscent of North Wales, even has a very extensive narrow gauge steam railway.
