Totally undecided where to go next year when this site caught my eye as a possibility as OH has now gone off Italy and wants us to go down to Biscarosse area the Royan as both areas great for cycling. The site looks good and the slides amazing. How far is the site from Couhe and a supermarket? I guess there are few english there but that wont bother us for the 3 or 4 nights we are thinking of going for. We would be arriving Sat 15th August, I guess the site will be pretty busy

Hi Pager see my posting - coincidentally we stayed there (or rather didn't actually sleep there, but had two showers!!). The shower block we used was lovely and clean - with big shower cubicles. I wasn't impressed by the entrance, as I thought the bar area looked a bit scruffy, and was closed when we were there, as was the take-away and restaurant, but overall it's a nice site, and the best part is that the pool complex stays open until midnight! There weren't too many English people there when we were there, mostly Dutch or French. It's a kilometre or so into Couhe, no distance by car, and not too far to cycle.
There's a sign by the Intermarche in Couhe that says it's 0.9km to the campsite. The site's at the bottom of the hill by the river, but loads of people walk back and forth with their shopping. (I had to push my bike up the hill but it's not that steep really!).
No, there aren't too many Brits - I've just mailed holiday snaps to 2 Dutch families and 1 French family, so it is a pretty friendly place.
Val, when were you there? I don't think I've seen the bar closed except after midnight. It could do with modernisation, but the son seems to have taken over this year and I'm sure things will change.
We were there on Thursday last week - only an overnight stop, but the bar and restaurant were 'definitely' closed, with all the tables and chairs piled up to one side. It did make for rather a scruffy entrance - but perhaps they're doing up that bit first????

Gosh! They're open till the end of the month! I don't know if we're going again next year. Son (15) would be happy to spend all his holidays there, but hubby and I would like something else for our silver wedding next year. There is much heated debate in this household. Maybe we have to go back to see if they redecorated the bar!
We have just booked up to stay at Camping Les Peupliers in Couhe in August after reading the reviews left on this site - we were looking for a site nr Poiters as we want to visit Futurescope again as we spent a day there a couple of years ago when we visited the vendee coast but didn't manage to see everything. Hoping it lives up to the reviews - is anyone able to tell me whether the swimming pools are heated as often sites say they are heated and they don't appear to be!
Any info on what to do around the area would be much appreciated if anyone has stayed at this site.
Thanks

ajljml123,
The main pool's heated but not so hot steam comes off. It's warm enough for most people though. Especially in August.
There's the Vallée des Singes (Monkey Valley) in Romagne, which is lots of fun. My son got covered in little squirrel monkies!
Les Géants du Ciel at Chauvigny
There's not a whole lot to do locally really, but the pool and the river are great. There's go karting fairly nearby, and my son and his friends found some white water rafting about 90 minutes away this year. It's about 90 minutes from the coast too. Oh, there are some pretty nice local markets.
It looks like we're going to be there in 2009, for our 4th consecutive year. I thought we were going somewhere hotter but .... son wants to go to Les Peups every year for the rest of his life and well, ... we want him to stay on for A-levels and somehow .. we ended up saying (Hubster ended up saying!) we'd go back.
Thanks for getting back to me, we are going for 13 nts during the beginning of August we have a 15 yr old boy and a girl of 12 so usually they are happy to spend most of the day in the pool - we do drag them off site kicking and screaming for a few cycle rides and visits to markets etc but generally if they are happy so are we. Monkey Valley looks good, I am sure the kids will enjoy that.
We have decided to have a slow drive down and back with a stop over at Le Mans. Can't wait for the summer now -
We might see you then! We're going via Eurotunnel this year (Tesco tokens) and probably stopping at a very nice little site at Falaise in Normandy on the way down. Haven't confirmed any dates yet.
Son will be 16 by then and in the pool or fishing. He's quite loud, so your kids won't have any problem finding him. We'll be in a big blue tent, so drop by and say hello if you see us.
