Hi thanks for your tips - we are in Chester so can get a Liverpool - Dublin crossing so the travelling isn't too much of an issue.   We are planning to go next Easter so that rules a few out and Ballyness doesn't appear to take tents.  MickeyM do you know if the Rushin House has ehu for the campsite doesn't seem to mention it anywhere on website?

oops, I had forgotten about that as they just stopped taking tents recently!

2 things -

I would agree 100% with the post that recommended using Holyhead and not Liverpool - Liverpool docks take ages and (imo) are more expensive crossings.

I'm going to put the cat among the pigeons here - but when you said Easter I shuddered (mainly at memories of being snowed on in Galway in April). Personally I wouldn't camp over here at Easter, it's way too cold for me. Having said that, I know lots of people do camp at that time of year and have no problem with it. One thing I would say, is be aware that the temperature over here IS lower than England, all year round, so be prepared that you might get pretty cold weather at Easter.

We stayed at moat farm in Wicklow in may for 10 nights. The weather was fantastic. The site facilities spotless. views to wicklow mountains superb. In easy reach from both ports. In the village of Donard, there are two village pubs, one shop, typically Ireland.can't beat it in our opinion.

We found Fossa campsite, near Killarney very good. Great for the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry.
Stayed at Fossa too. Good site as its close to the town. If you are taking a caravan around the Ring of Kerry, you must travel in an anticlockwise direction. All buses and coaches travel this way to avoid the overhanging rocks.

hi, we have stayed in mannix Point and can't get enough of it. Facilities may not be as good as UK but scenery makeup for that, as does Mortimer the owner, he is so helpful.  There are showers etc and a ceile room, ie music and chat with a turf fire. The site is beside the sea, it has a pebble beach with good beaches and the town nearby. Its about 4.5-5 hrs drive from dublin and 4 from rosslare. Contact Mortimer for correct time journey, it may be a trek but its worth it! www.campinginkerry.com
