Hoping to go to Norway next year, please can anybody give me any useful information, - I have heard that there are no longer any ferries that run from the UK to any ports there. What port might be the best alternative??? Is LPG available there? I look forward to hearing any comments. Thanks.

Whereabouts are you based?   There was a ferry started up last year between Scrabster and Bergen (by Smyril Lines), not sure if it still goes.  Otherwise you are correct.

Next nearest would be Newcastle/ Esbjerg if it still goes, then Newcastle/Amsterdam and Hull/Rotterdam.  Or Harwich/Hook of Holland if you are further south, or a Channel crossing and a long drive.

Once you get over the water you can drive via Denmark via the bridges and tunnel to Sweden at Malmo, then up into Norway, or drive to the north east of Denmark where there are ferries to southern Norway and Oslo.  There is also a boat from Copenhagen to Oslo.

You can also cross from Germany to Sweden .

LPG is available, but not sure how widely.

If you do a search you will find some posts about Norway, then come back if you have more questions.

If you click search, type in Norway and then select "caravanning and camping abroad" as the section you wish to search, a dozen or so other threads come up.

Hope that helps.

Hi, I am an expat living in Norway, The only ferry link between UK and Norway finished sadly on 1.09.08, the quickest way now is DFDS Newcastle to Esbjerg, then a 2 1/2 hour drive to Hirtshals and colorline to Kristiansand, then you either turn left for the Fjords or go straight on for Oslo, to the fjords you are looking at around a 7 hour drive, to Oslo around 4 hours.

LPG is widely available, gas for your unit has changed though, they used to refill your gas bottles at the gas station, this changed about 3 years ago and now you would hae to buy a gas bottle and adapter, ot refundable and pretty expensive too. My advice would be to bring enough gas with you.

Would suggest you look at www.nocc.no there is an English section also, any questions don't hesitate to contact me.
