I think you can take what you like. This year we used the tapwater to drink but only after we had put it through a filter jug.

We always drink the tap water. Always have and always will.

How did this post re-start 8 years later?    I presume the first poster in 2012 is responsible for it but is it time to call time on it or will we let it rumble on for another 8 years?

Hi Roverslass ...

You can get cottage cheese in France ... might need a bit of a search:

Another thing that's really expensive is salad ceam. I quite like the French version but the kids found it a bit strong, more like a vinaigrette (sp?) dressing but Heinz stuff was extortionate price. So will be taking some this year.

We took loads of meat the first year we went but found it wasn't a lot more expensive in France and we wished we hadn't taken so much with us. So now we take enough for a couple of meals then shop for fresh stuff over there.

Hi allengeneology ...
Thinking about it ... I quite like the idea of using a previous thread to continue ...
Means we might avoid repetition of previous info ... and, it reduces the number of threads.
How often do we see new threads covering the same old ground ...
Maybe threads with the same/similar headings should automatically tack onto existing ones ... i.e. when a new subject is entered in the heading, there should be an automatic search for existing threads, and then continue the existing one instead of opening a new one ... (I see lots of grumbles and references to existing info).
Ratty ... is there mileage in this ... can it be done ... or should there be a way of enforcing a search before a new thread is started?

Whats all this about no BBQs at some France campsites? I live on BBQ food or if not use an outdoor cooker.  We are going to Disneyland Paris then as much as we know for now, northern France.

Are some areas/ types of sites more BBQ friendly?

That's exactly why I tried to get the water and the swimming shorts into my reply. If we can just have one big never-ending thread that covers all the bugbears .....

Parts of France, mostly in the South and West, are prone to forest fires. Sites in these areas don't usually allow barbecues for obvious reasons. They do allow camping stoves though:)

Up round Eurodisney you'll be fine!

The reason for no barbecues is that some areas have very little rain during the summer, and fire regulations (nothing to do with the campsite itself) ban individual barbecues during these dry periods.  In some areas  this is a permanent thing, in others just enforced if the summer is exceptionally dry.

Sometimes these sites have a communal barbecue area you can use - but cooking outside using gas cookers, gas barbecues or electric cookers, is not a problem.

If the search facility was more user friendly I think people would find the information they want from previous threads, but as it only searches the title line is it restricted. Occasionally I have tried searching for info and after a few tries given up and started a new thread. We are so used to the ease of google search.
