This summer we had a really good holiday at Camping Bel in La Tranche sur Mer on the west coast of France. Thinking of returning to  the area but would like to try a different site. Has anyone stayed at Le Cottage Fleuri or Les Rouillleres or can anyone recommend any other sites in or near La Tranche?

We were in Bel this summer and loved it as well.
Looked at the site closer to the beach but it seemed to be quite crammed.
Also looked at Du Jard and another one in La Griere but thought that Bel was the best of them.
Sorry dont know anything about the ones you mentioned.
Hoping to get booked for Bel in January.

Yes, the site nearer the beach is Baie D'Aunis and did look very cramped indeed so we've ruled that one out. If we don't come up with an alternative we will be heading back to Bel. We are planning to buy a larger tent for next year and  are pretty sure it won't fit on the pitch size we were given at Bel. We were very near the amenity block just down from the pool. The ones around us were a similar size and we didn't explore the rest of the site. 2 reviewers on this website have indicated that they were easily accommodated with their large outfits so presumably there must have been some large emplacements further into the site. How did you find the pitch size?

We found the pitch size to be Ok. We were able to put our car at the side of the awning which meant that we had the front of the pitch to sit on our loungers, with room to spare. Mind you we had to get out of the car before my OH reversed it in.
People near us had their caravan turned across the pitch and had an inflatable boat at the side. Also the pitch opposite us had caravan, awning, gazebo, which they used for eating in and had quite a big trailer parked on it. They store their caravan close to Bel.
We were on 206, which was on the beach side of the amenity block you were near. The pitches in that area all looked to be a good size.
We just loved Bel, but havent been to any other sites so I suppose there are better ones out there. Have been looking, but its hard to find one in such a good situation as Bel, it was great not to have to use the car.
We plan to use it for another year, as there was so much in the area we didnt get to do. We did a weeks windsurfing at the Nova Fun school and the instructors were excellent.
Did you book directly with Bel?

Yes we did book direct and plan to do so again. You're absolutely right, the location is very convenient and we only used the car for the beach at La Terriere. The family is quite happy to have another year at Bel so that's probably what we'll end up doing as I'm struggling to get any reliable recommendations for a local alternative. We didn't explore as much as I would have liked and that's one of the reasons I'm keen to go back there.

We stayed at Bel this year and du Jard last year. Kids love Bel but it is a bit limiting for over 12s. dy Jard is a bit more tatty and noisier at night but it has larger play areas so is better for teenagers. We found that the location was a bit far out from the main town but we would happily stay there again

Hi Tim
Yes Bel is more suited for younger kids, ours were 12 and 10 when we were there, but did not find this a problem. Mainly because they do not go to kids clubs etc. this was one of the reasons we chose Bel and it worked well for us.
Even at their age they loved going to the Dvd show at night and thought that the clown on Friday was great.
We used to choose sites with lots of things for the kids to do and found it was a waste of time.
We loved the fact that the site was not overrun with older kids, but were surprised at how many were there.
However everyone has their own requirements when it come to what makes a good holiday, Bel did it for us.
