Brilliant - now you can start looking forward to your holiday.  Did you get a good price crossing?

Unfortunately you seem to have joined the Caravan Club at a really bad time - their website has crashed, and the phones are busy all the time.  We've always had really good dealings with them in the past - and especially so when my Mum died suddenly last year, the day we were due to cross the channel.  They were really helpful and considerate.   I know it'll have put you off - but they usually give good service and usually their ferry crossings are very competitively priced.

I am still astounded at the value I got off Norfolk Lines

OK its 50Km N of Boulogne and a hr longer at sea each way compared to Speedferries but only 1/2 the price of speedferries and a very small fraction of the cost of the others

Me too - our Norfolk Lines crossing was only £78.00 return for car and caravan, in both May and September - which is the same sort of price we got 15 years or more ago!

Hi TethersEnd.

I agree Norfolklines prices are very good, I got my July return for £50 quid, as I am heading for the Ardeche I fancied Newhaven/Dieppe having done that crossing in the past, but at £170 it's a no brainer, OK it would save me around 70miles driving, but on a 800 mile drive it does not make a difference, not a £120's worth that's for sure.

My August crosing [sat 8th out and Sun 30th back] for just a car was sub £30 with the 20% off for having a speedferries booking.

We have always used Norfolk Line and our peak time crossing in August next year is £46. Never had anything but good service from them and their policy of waving you onto the next boat at no charge if you turn up early is excellent. You are 3 minutes drive from the Autoroute and half an hour later you are waving bye bye to Boulogne so the fact that it is the most northerly of the ports isnt a problem.

I did price Speedferries in October which came in at £60 which is still a good price but opted for Norfolk Line. There is always the possibility that a Speed ferries booking is cancelled due to rough weather or it goes in rough sea and you start your holiday with seasickness. Glad I didnt book now as I would have done it with my debit card and had no chance of a refund.

I've also just booked Norfolk line.  They are having problems with the web site so I rang them.  The price quoted on the phone was less than the web site, no fuel surcharge added, no credit card surcharge added and phone booking surcharge waived because of the problems on the web so we're definately quids in!!!

Heading off in July, nothing booked, we'll watch the weather and the strength of the euro before making any decisions bur come what may we'lll be in France in july again...........can't wait!!

Well hubby said no allowed to tell, as everyone be booking it and price will go up next year! Lol

But we going for 2 weeks, 2nd Aug, Portsmouth to Cherbourg and it only cost £220 return thats for car and caravan, so we are well pleased!

We used it last yeat too, but booked reclining seats, won't do that again tho, it was ok going as we all had a kip, but coming home we had some old gits in front complaining, huffing and tutting, as we had our 3 yr old who wasnt sleepy at all, the more I tried to keep him still and quiet the more they moaned  I ended up taking him outside for the rest of the journey as I was so mad with them, they obviously forgot what its like having a toddler!!!!

Also once the lady who looked at your ticket had gone, lots of people just walked in, so I wondered why I had bothered to pay at all!!! One woman sat behind us (she hadn't paid either, and spewed up for hrs, it was horrible, made me feel sick listening to her, she could of choosen the loo surely!

Hi TethersEnd.

You could nip down to the Cabanon factory, it is located in Dunkerque, not sure if they do factory visits though, just in case you spot all the box's with made in China on them!!!. failing that I am sure there is some WW1 locations to visit in an around the area, worth a google.

Cheers Francis

The cabanon factory - what fun - Maybe they let you watch them put the '0' on the chinese prices to convert them into €

I have my eye on a couple of WWI sites but is there any recommendation of how to kill an hour or two in Dunkirk?
