So the gist of this post is that even the much- vaunted SAGA can be a drama.

So, who is good? Has anyone any suggestions please?

The Caaravan Club Red Pennant. Not the cheapest but then you only find out how good insurance is when you need to use it.

Your travel insurers will deal with medical issues but if your car insurers or your breakdown insurers are the ones to deal with repatriating your vehicle someone is going to have to deal with all of these people to co-ordinate. Expecting that to happen seamlessly is a bit optimistic in my view.

Hardly optimistic, as a serious injury inevitably brings a set of other circumstances which are entirely predictable and so should be dealt with straight away (travel, vehicles etc). Secondly this was one company, one policy for everything, at least thats how it was sold, and they simply couldnt get their act together. They left two pensioners up to their neck in it. If I hadnt been there it would have been quite dreadful for them.

It was basic organisation and they failed miserably.

Through my travels ive had experience of several insurance companies when medical claims have arisen and theyve all been preatty good.

In Thailand my wife was hospitalised with Dengue fever and one phone call set the wheels in motion, they (Lloyds) even chartered a mini bus for the 8 hour trip to phuket hospital and we had nothing to do.10 out of 10.

In Estartit my Nephew crashed his go kart and required hospital treatment at Palamos hospital, they were travelling with Eurocamp and once again 10 out of 10.

Endsleigh (cheap) insurance ive had several dealings with, firstly a travelling companion of mine was taken ill in Benin with Celebral Malaria and they had her on an air ambulance very quickly, possible there actions saved her life.I suffered an attack of Malaria while descending Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and again latter in Zimbabwe and in both instances they handled all dealings with the hospitals.10 out of 10.

So all in all been pleased with all the travel insurance companies ive had dealings with.

This July we went to france and my wife dislocated her shoulder went to the hospital,we where seen straight away the hospital, they found someone from in the office to translate for us,she saw the doctor twice had a x-ray and we where on our way with medication and a sling within 1hr,we had no paperwork so they let us return the next day to pay and collect a letter for wife's doctor, the whole experiance was very easy.It amazed me how clean and efficient the hospital was and every member of staff seemed happy to be there.

The bill came to £85 for everything after showing our ehic card,we contacted red pennant from france, when we got home the claim form was waiting and we received a cheque 2 weeks later and because we showed our ehic didn't need to pay excess.

Herald.
