Hi

It has been a while since we last posted and we are now planning our next camping adventure! myself and my boyfriend haven't camped over in France before and very keen to give it a go!

My boyfriend surfs so looking to go to Lacanau and have come across this campsite. I am wondering if anyone has been and if they could give feedback on the site before we book anything. Looking to go mid June to avoid school holidays and crowds.

Thanks in advance

Camping duo

Well seeing as nobody has given you any specific info, I'll point out that there is no need to book in June which will allow you more choice. Dunno if you have been to the area but Lacanau is quite large & commercial, you might find it nicer up the coast a short way. Carcans & Hourtin Plage are nicer imho & a couple of miles above Hourtin is Le Pin-Sec, cheap campsite but possibly very quiet in June, all places mentioned are popular with surfy types.

My fave place is Montalivet a few miles above that. If you Google image the names you will get pics of the places to give you an idea.

Thanks for that MartyM. Been having a think and may go a little further up to Hourtin Plage. As we will have the car with us we can then go along the coast to look for surf spots etc...

Just been looking on the internet for camping guides for France as we may split the drive up on the way down. Any recommendations? Is the the Michelin camping guide and Michelin guide for france any good?

Cheers

If you just want an overnight stop theres no need to buy a camping guide. any town of any size will have a camping municipal & it will be signposted in the town. To give yourself a rough idea, check your route & google the name of any town you might want an overnight stop at, put in say, 'Chartres camping municipal' will bring up specific info.

Your route from Calais might be Calais, Abbeville, Rouen, Evereux, Chartres, Tours, Poitiers, Bordeaux & up to Hourtin. All good road & little toll. French toll roads need to be avoided with £/€ parity!

Hourtin campsite is v expensive tho. Pin Sec might be better!

My sons, 28 and 22, were at Les Grand Pins in August this year - and loved it.  It seems to be one of 'the campsites' for surfers!  They had a good sized pitch, and of course, the site's within walking distance to the beach.  It's the second time they've been - and they decided, this year, to stick to Lacanau.  They've also been to Hourtin, and to Hossegor, but enjoyed Lacanau more as it was all younger generation surfers.
