Used for 3 return trips in the last year. The same boat all the time - the 'Seven Sisters'. Good price and plenty of space. Though poor shopping and average eating but that is not what I need the ferry for. It works well for my regular trips to Poitiers and Limoge. I like it.

We used the route 18 months ago when we were going to the Somme. I was very pleased with the trip, the boat was better than some of Brittany Ferries for certain. It was Transmarche not LD. I would happily use them again.

Are the reclining seats free on this ferry or do you have to book? Also where are they located onboard?
we've just booked for August and with a 10.30pm crossing we want a bit of sleep before a 10 hour drive through France
Thanks

Used it last year and have booked this year too. Good comfortable ferry (seven sisters -Transmanche). It took ages to actually get off when we docked at Newhaven but otherwise no problems.

Hi JJ.
Would love to do Newhaven-Dieppe again, and would be the ideal crossing if using the none Toll Western route, down to the Southern Ardeche. and would save us 250 miles driving overall.
But the return ferry cost is £280! for car+trailer, compared to £58 using NorfolkLines Dover-Dunkerque return crossing.
Even using the Toll road Eastern route to the Southern Ardeche, only adds £106 for the return journey, so were still saving over £100 even allowing for the fuel saved using Newhaven-Dieppe.

We live only 6 miles from Newhaven but took a Sea France ferry from Dover this year as the price difference between the two was £210 (and that was booking 3 months in advance!) I was more than happy to pay a few pounds extra for the fuel and the 2 hour drive to Dover. A great pity as the crossing would have been ideal for us. But £210 is a lot of money! The ships are usually quiet though but as other posters have said, the facilities are rather basic. The ferry is geared up for lorries more than cars etc.

We were in Dieppe last week, the queue for the ferry was...pretty much non existent. It had transmarcheferry.com on the side. Really didn't look very busy, not like the waiting areas at Dover.
We drove back up to Dunkirk for our return crossing, with the caravan we paid 11.60 Euros for the toll section, which took a little under 2.5hrs.

I never even realised this ferry route existed
Now, if Tesco vouchers can be used on it, that would make it worthwhile... (I don't remember seeing it on their website, so I guess not).

we did this route this August. Newhaven really is a crappy port and there is no terminal to speak of other than a cafe, sitting area and toilets. We just sat in the car rather than be in there.
We took the 10.30pm NH - Dppe crossing, ferry absolutely fine, we wanted a cabin so went in and paid for one, was about £70 I think for a 4 berth for the night crossing. There are 3 recliner lounger seating areas on the boat, and quite alot of people brought things to sleep on the floor with. Ferry was VERY quiet, hardly any people. Small canteen for hot and cold food that was fine. Inside cabin was much larger than I expected, with toilet and shower and cupboard space.
On the return (5am Dppe - NH) we had a cooked English brekkie as we got on the boat, then took the cabin again (£30 for this leg).
All in all not cheap, especially as we booked the cabins - £285 for the fee + £100 for the cabins. Still cheaper than the Portsmouth ferries, but next year I'll be back to the Eurotunnel for sure.
Ports - Newhaven is terrible, dont get there too early before your crossing, Dieppe - cant say as it was 4am!.
Ferry - basic but comfortable, had a small canteen and small duty free shop, 3 reclining seat areas, bar, cabins much bigger than other lines, VERY quiet when we went.
Price - better value than Portsmouth if you choose like us to get your head down and sleep on crossings rather than want to do things onboard. Worse than Eurotunnel or Dover if thats an option for you.
