Has anyone been to a campsite in Point De Vaux, which is north of Lyon called Les Ripettes?
I have been browsing for smaller campsites off the beaten track, preferably family run. I don't like huge rambling sites that are noisy. I found Les Ripettes and am tempted to book but just wonder if anyone has any views. Perhaps you know similar small sites with decent size pitches?

The current owners Bob and Angela  (friends of my parents) are lovely and they have worked really hard on the site since they bought it in 2004, new pool with all the security etc. I think they may have sold the site though so it's worth emailing them and checking before booking - it's a shame really as we would have liked to have visited them in 2010 when we head down that way.

Thank you Lucycat for your reply. I have already enquired at the site for information and the lady's name is Angela, so maybe they still have it. It sounds just what we want anyway.

Thanks again.

Can't tell you much other than it looks nice and we thought we would use it as a stop over site on way to the Ardeche

I also have this bookmarked for the future. Shame if it closes or changes. Some reviews here

We stopped there for a few days a few years ago. I don't think I have ever been on a site with such large pitches! I had a digital Christmas Card from Angela and Bob so assume they are still there although having said that they have not done a campsite update for 2009.

We have stopped there twice, last year and the year before. We use it as a stop-over on our way south.  As said it is a lovely little site with large pitches, and the mini pool is nice to cool down in as well. Do try the restaurant the Red Pig (Coshon Rouge) in the village as it sells lovely local dishes in an authentic atmosphere.

By the way do not worry if you lose GPS signal in the village of Pont De Vaux, we have every time we go past the marina, so have come to the conclusion it is something to do with navigation aids to the boats.

Just some updated information.

I have recently had a message from Bob and Angela. They have indeed decide to retire and have sold the site to a French couple called Isabelle and Marc who will take over end of May beginning of June. Bob and Angela are intending to buy a house in the same area.

We stayed here in June last year on our way to Millau - It is an easy N road drive off the A6 - you can read my review here:-

 http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5741

Nice quiet site well away from the road and easy access. Good clean facilities, pool etc. We were on pitch No 26 which was huge, BBQ out most nights, good Satellite reception, everywhere was immaculate. Supermarket 1m, sells Petrol/Diesel.

I would definitely stay again, even with new owners!!

Hi, we stayed on this site  2years ago and have booked it for 5 nights on our way back from the south this year, small qiuet site just outside village, great market in village last time we were there, small supermarket and lots of shops in village, marina and riverside walks etc, Angela & Bob are retireing in June if sale goes through and are buying a house nearby, apparently the french couple who are buying it have had campsites before and are said to be nice & friendly, there are some very large pitches on this site. we had a good time here, pizza van calls once a week you chose your own toppings etc, hope you find useful

kind regards

KEN

My strongest memory of this site is the aftermath of jumping in to the pool with my specs on, and only realising what had happened after I'd got out and got dressed (specs on bottom of pool...). Angela was very helpful with her long pole!

Nice site, and nice, if basic, facilities. Large grassy pitches, which although perfectly firm on our two stays were quite rutted in parts suggesting some had had issues in wet weather.
