I'm writing from "Down Under" seeking a bit of help. About seven years ago I bought four Lallemand (Amsterdam) chairs to take with us as we take our caravan to various places in Australia. I need to buy a number of the plastic strips that are used on these chairs as they have broken over the years and are now beyond repair. (I have used cable ties)

I've searched the local internet but there does not seem to be anyone in Australia who handles the product. The only link on the web which I can find takes me nowhere other than to tell me that these chairs are made in France (http://www.champdor.com/english/lallemand.html)

Is there any chance that anyone has information which be useful to me in obtaining the plastic/vinyl strips that I need? If you do, I'd be really grateful if you could pass it on. Thanks.

I think I read on another forum that Lallemand chairs are now manufactured by Lafuma - and they do operate a parts service, but from the website I can't see that parts that you mention (not that I'm sure which strips you want).  However, their website is http://www.lafuma.org.uk/lafuma_spares.htm and it may be worth contacting them for more information.

Edited later:  Just checked - and this is the posting I remembered about Lallemand

I had two Lallemande recliners which, after seven years of regular use, eventually gave up the ghost. I contacted Lafuma - who by then had taken over Lallemande - told them the problem I had because I thought the problems were reparable. Some of the plastic joints had become brittle and had snapped.

Without any hassle they sent me two BRAND NEW recliners free of charge. It's that kind of service and customer care that you are paying for. Even more surprising when you consider the company is French.

However they do have an excellent UK office based at Fareham in Hampshire who I have found to be extremely helpful.

Telephone us on
01865 876 650

I hope this helps, Jim - and if you don't get anywhere I'll pick some new chairs up and bring them over to you in Australia for a small fee!

Thank you Val. I really appreciate your reply and the information. Not sure I could afford the fee! Interestingly my paternal family roots are in Devon and Cornwall. Not sure exactly where but one day, in the not too distant future, my brothers and I might travel to England to find out. The present financial crisis has put few plans on hold, believe me!

Hi I just found this not sure if it the same company as the web site seems very limited, there is a phone and fax number so you may be able to contact them direct, best of luck Roy.

Go to here:

www.lafuma.org.uk

This is the UK branch of the French company who took over Lallemande some years ago. They are extremely helpful and I'm sure that if they can help you they will.

Cheers!

Vic

Hi Vic - it was your posting that I copied into my reply for Jim - hope you don't mind.  I know you'd had very good service from Lafuma.

How about a pop riveter (know what that is?) and some of that plastic strip wrap industry uses for holding stuff onto pallets?

You also get similar rubber strips on furniture which must be available to buy, even in OZ where I understand the POHM supply crates are becoming a thing of the past for contemporary furnishing.

G'day mate

My dear girl, I don't mind a bit of good old fashioned plagiarism. In fact I'm quite flattered!

The elastics on our (similar to) Lafuma chairs had given up the ghost this year and lost all its stretch.  The Super U in Narbonne had packs of replacement elastics  and because the boxes were damaged we got two packs for 6 euros!  There were other bits and bobs to fit Lafuma chairs in the Camping section of the supermarket.

They were simple to fit and now the chairs are as good as new.
