We are hoping to spend the month of May in france , will be sailing from Rosslare to Cherbourg, this will be our first time and would appreciate ideas on campsites, and routes, would like to spend around 4/5 days in each location.

Hi Stella

Bit of a broad canvas you have offered. But here goes as a suggestion.

On arrival L'Anse du Brick, 15 mins from the ferry terminal, and a nice easy site. Will be quiet in May, and 4/5 days gives you plenty to see and do adjacent to the site, and around Cherbourg and the coast 20 miles either side.

1 st move Port L'Epine /Perros Guirec 2/3 hrs drive west on the coast. Again lovely area, plenty of sight seeing, and a quite unique area of France. The villages are Breton north, and this is mega different to the rest of France

2nd move Across the Brest penninsula to Concarneau/ Benodet. There are loads of posting on hear for campsites in this area, too many to mention. Ours is Les Pres Verts at Concarneau. You may want more than 4/5 days here. But a couple of must dos for me is a visit to Locronan which is a medieval village nearby, and a sail to the Iles of Glennan if the boats are running that early.

3rd Move to La Trinitie/Carnac/Quiberon/ Golfe de Morbihan anywhere round this area, again there are many threads on here on the subject.

4th move Vendee/ St Jean de Monts, just because it is there, and see it before the millions of tourists arrive in July/August.

5th move Angers There is a very well organised municipal not far from the town centre, and again 4/5 days is not enough. Must visit Bouchemaine and the river west of Angers. You could stay at Angers or do a short hop to Saumur.

Depending on time you can then go up the Loire to Sancerre, or head back to the Channel and do the WW2 beaches etc, or if you prefer rural Normandy, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6938 for a few days, say hello, and then back to Cherbourg.

Just a suggestion,  you have now covered about 10 % of France ,see how you go.

hi stella68.
Probably telling you something you already know but you cant pay at the M50 toll bridge anymore. You have to pay before or after you go through.
We are going the same route as you in August, but are going to stay overnight in Camac Valley, before we head to Rosslare. This will let us find somewhere to pay the toll.

Jeff and Sharon

Thank you for reminding me about the b....y toll Bridge.    We went through it last September on our way to France for a 7 week holiday and had been told that we didn't have to stop anymore and we thought it was free.   We missed the phone number and had to catch the Ferry.   We spent 7 weeks worrying about it but luckily we didn't get fined, probably because it had only started.    It is a real pain when you only go that way once a year but it seems the Drogheda Toll Bridge will be dealt with the same way soon.

Good luck to all in 2009 and take care.

Stella

Look at Camping Cheques and/or ACSI card as you are going in May.   The sites will be very quiet but there will be more people on sites accepting the above.

The Caravan Club Book is excellent (Vol1) for France and has good reviews.   Make sure that the sites you want to go to are open as some don't open until End May/June.

I can really recommend Camping Haliotis at Pontorson beside Mont St Michel as your first or second stop.

Hi Marz,
Do you know when the Drogheda toll bridge is likely to go that way?
It's time they organised it so we could pre-pay in the North.
