Hi, I have booked the ferries for September, and OH is moaning that it won,t be warm enough. We are going to Santander, throught the Pyrannes, and over to the Med.I think that it should be warm without the burning heat, any ideas how warm it could be?
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We've been in southern France, in 2007, when it was 38 degrees in September - so quite hot. This is not usual, butI would expect it to be comfortable still. We've also been to Perpignan in November (Armistice Day) when it was hot enough to sunbathe on the beach at Collioure, and other people were swimming in the sea!!!
There are some superb weather web-sites that give you all the info, going back years how many sun hours, max/min temps etc for your intended location, I am sure someone will be along with the links shortly, my brother was down the med in Sept last year, Frejus and said it was hot during the day, although not as searing as in July, but defo ok for swimming in the sea etc. and did not see any rain either.
We go to the Costa Brava late september every year. The weather is usually warm, but can be windy for a few days. Last year was great, in the sea every day, barbecue every evening. Other years we,ve had thunderstorms, had the tent floating in ankle deep water, but warm water! We have seen the temp up to 33 in the shade but it is a comfortable heat. Would recommend this time of year as the camp sites are so relaxed about pitches as they are quieter than high season.
We rented a house near Orange last Sept/Oct - warm day time - shorts/t-shirt - but cool evenings - after 5pm. MIstralblew for a couple of days - b freezing!
We were in the south of France - Agde, Sete, Aigues Mortes - from middle to end of September last year. It was quite hot most days, but the Tramontane (equivalent to the Mistral on the other side of the Med) blew quite a lot too. We've also been in that same area in October, same story, quite hot, but with the Tramontane blowing too.

When I was younger and had a choice about holiday times always went to the Med in September, getting on to October. Always warm. There was the occasional shower but not long lasting.
