Bit of a long shot this but has anyone visited or stayed at this site - Cala Llevado near Tossa de Mar. Just wondering if its as good as it looks.

Thanks Belinda

hi belinda
stayed there last year for 3 weeks, a bit pricey not many brits [a plus point!!], lovely beaches, showerblocks imaculate, nice pool, good shop, however it is lge & is very steep in places although pitches are flat & shaded. the alan rogers site has a review.
i think the Times had it as 1 of it's top sites in europe.
no entertainment 2 speak of, nice bar & restaurant.
go for it u'll not be disapointed.

Hi Belinda,I have stayed in Tossa de Mar at the ordinary site on the edge of the town only 5 minute level walk to shops/bars/cafes etc

Cala Llevado  did not suit us because it is steep and you cannot walk to Tossa for shopping or restaurants/bars etc , I dont wish to drive every evening when I am on holiday.

Tossa de Mar  is a wonderful town with beautiful shops, plenty of inexpensive restaurants, and a lovely beach.

Kind regards,

Leo

I stayed there about ten years ago for about 5 nights.

As has been said, site covers a steep area so a bit of a slog up from the beach( my legs were definitely more toned when we left though!) but lots of shade and all pitches are flat. Some of the smaller pitches are away from the roads so you need to carry your gear up/down steps(we used these as we only had a small tent).

Showers/toilets spotless and there was always a lady hosing them down whatever time of day...there were lovely large wet room type showers when we were there..seemed very mod at the time!

Agree with prev post, unlike the surrounding area, there were hardly any Brits on site[:^:] and therefore hardly any on the beach below the site[:^:]...a nice beach cafe as well.

We went to the beach nearer Tossa de Mar itself once and it was completely different...full of Brits![8D]...[;)]

Hi,

We also stopped there some 8-9 years ago. I saw the advert and write-up in the Alan Rogers guide. Wonderful !

Beaches superb although the undertow/surf at the sea edge can be quite deceptively strong....be careful with children. As everybody says the walk back up the slopes to your pitch can be demanding, but they are wonderfully sited with good shade and privacy. Toilets and showers were always perfectly clean. 'Tossa' is a short drive away and very pleasant.

Yes absolutely great went this year, the staff work hard to keep you happy, the toilets are about the best you'll ever find. Quite small pitches and millions of tiny ants. Beautiful beaches one very calm as well as the surfy one good for kids.

Err, yes, about 25+ years ago I went camping there with Club 18-30 in a ready-erected tent (like a Eurocamp tent).   I vaguely remember through the drunken haze that the pool was lovely but the walk to the beach was very steep, and I thought the plots were small at the time, but then I had nothing to compare it with?

Funny that this thread has been revived. I asked back in March about Cala LLevada and had some good replies which helped to make us decide to call in there in June. It was lovely and just as many of you have described. We loved the beaches and yes it was a hike back up. It was only about 30% full at the time. I don't think I would want to be there in high season. We walked into Tossa and back through the woods which was a high point of our stay. And this is a picture of our frame tent. We had a fantatic sea view.

Wow... doesn't look like its changed at all in all this time.

I remember hanging over one of those fences to be sick... ooops TMI

I was 19 at the time and took my 16yrs old sister with me. The first night we went out and I got really drunk - next day in stifling heat I sent sister out to get some water cos I was being sick... she didn't come back, apparently she met some lads at the pool. I think she eventually rolled up at about 11pm. Sometime during the afternoon a rep came to check on me and found me totally dehydrated being very very sick and arranged some water... I think I surfaced the day after that - quite a bit thinner though, so that was a bonus!

At the half-way point some lads missed the bus back as they were drunk in the bar when it left - so they ended up staying in our tent for the rest of our holiday because we had spare beds (shows how times have changed, there was no hanky panky at all!) and sneaking home on our bus - hidden under blankets at the back of the bus at passport control because their passports had gone home with their more sober mates the week before...

ahh... fond memories...

Christine

Ah Christine, the foolishness of youth, or maybe not. Wasn't actually sick over them but did lean on them for support a few times and not from the exertion of walking up the hill.

Just shows you what a lot of tommy rot people spout about young people today binge drinking blah blah blah. I am sure us oldies all have similar tales to tell if we only admitted it. I certainly have.

Cala Llevada was celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and gave us a lovely calender with pictures from the 1960's and 70's.
