I am planning a visit to the Normandy Beaches 3rd to 8th June 2009, in line with the 65th anniversary of the D Day landings. I am looking for a site near Arromanches, but they seem to be booked solid. Anyone know and recommend a site in this area, not too expensive as we would be out all day and only want to use the site for sleeping, (the odd bar or two may be handy though) that I can use over three days as a base?

What about using Camping Cheques at Chateau de Martragny - that will cost you just £13.40 per night, and does have a bar on site! It's a bit further away, perhaps, than you wanted, but I imagine that all campsites near to the beaches might be booked solid at the time of this anniversary.
We used cote de nacre last year at the same dates as you are planning. there was plenty of spaces left It is situated close to jumo beach(100 metres) at St. Aubin sur Mer. ACSI cards are accepted there Going back this year but a week later due to the grandchildrens school commitments. You must go to Arromanche on D Day, park at the 360 cinema and walk down the path to Arromanche. As we walked down the path the songs of that time were being played at the museum, it brought a lump to my throat.
We stayed at Le Cormeron which we really liked. Right opposite a beach though it's not sandy.
It's a few miles from St. Mere Eglise and handy for a lot of the D Day beaches.
The site was quiet at night and we had a huge pitch. There's a lot of statics on site and not many Brits there when we stayed in 2007.
Dave and Di, whilst I cannot recommend a campsite, I would like to wish you an enjoyable holiday. My family and I visited Normandy back in 2006 , and the 360 cinema at Arromanches was incredibly moving, it made history come alive for my 2 boys.

Thank you, I have been there the last two years and used the Municipal campsite at Arromanches, which was very convenient for the town, just a walk of five minutes, and found it very friendly, but this year for the 65th anniversery it is booked up solid. So again, thank you all for your replies and good wishes, I am certainly looking forward to the visit in June.
