Looks like this might happen this year, they've just agreed on a ship.

Does anybody have experience of campsites in this region and websites I could visit.

However you should note that prices in Ireland are through the roof due to the credit crunch at present.

I live in County Kerry, and the best campsite in this area without a doubt is Wavecrest in Caherdaniel, It's set amongst the rocks, on a height, facing out to the sea. The nearby beach is one of the nicest in the British Isles and the local pub does great "Pub Grub", music sessions and has a very family friendly play area. There's tons to explore in the local area. The campsite itself has very good facilities and a well stocked mini market.

As for the dreaded word "credit crunch" , yes, its happening, prices are falling here though. We've just had a budget and everyone is now worse off financially so shops, hotels and I assume campsites have had to be more creative about how they attract customers. I would imagine that there may be scope to negotiate prices a bit, especially if you were planning to stay for several nights.

I will second that, Wavecrest is lovely (see my review). The only problem we found is that the nearest cashpoint and fuel is about 9 miles away in Waterville, so be prepared for this. The shop will change cash or travellers cheques though.

Bad news folks, the Swansea Cork Ferry will not be running this year. Although they have secured the boat, they believe it's too late to get enough bookings to run - I believe the new launch date is St David's Day 2010
