We are thinking of doing a week on the Somme in the Tent. Can anyone recomend a good site to use for touring the area, that has good toilet & shower blocks, as we are in the tent ? Local for restaurants and maybe a swimming pool, but these are not critical...just a good clean site, that members recomend.
Regards to all,
Colin.

Try the Port de Plaisance in Peronne.
It's not an all singing all dancing type of place but it has a pool and hot showers and it's right on the Somme.

We stayed here http://www.parcdescygnes.com/gb.html when we visited the Somme 3 years ago, a really lovely site and large pitches, small shop on site, laundry, no pool, the showers etc., were fantastic. Close to Amiens where you must visit the son et lumiere at the Cathedral There are some good restaurants to be had in Amiens too.

I have three sides, left, right and wrong - which one are you on?

I agree with Port De Plaisance at Peronne. Stayed here a few times on way back north and it is great. Good pool, nice people on reception, easy walk into town, plenty to see roundabout.

Many thanks folks, like the look of the one at Perronne, always better to hit on one with a positive review...would hate to go all that way and have it ruined by yobs or a filthy site ! aagghh ! The main places we intend to see are the Thiepval Memorial, our friend who is going with us has a relative named on it, killed in Sept 1916 and we want to see Delville Wood as that is where the wifes Grandfather fought. I see on some of the French camping sites there are many listed but they have no Web sites..may peep in on one or two and check them out ? ....I am still open to suggestions other folk may have, many thanks again.

Before you go you might want to look up your friend's relative here.

Another vote for Peronne, the shower block is heated, and also the washing up sinks are inside too! And they keep it all nice and bleachy clean. Just as long as you can stand the piped music when the cleaner is around.
