Hi

Can anyone reccomend a campsite with walking distance of Josselin that will open in early September. We will be driving ourselves and pitching a tent.

Cheers

Thanks, sounds very good, have you stayed there? If so how long a walk is it, (at 2km I'm guessing half an hour). Guegon itself looks pretty nice, does it have much in the way of facilities (bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc?)

Does Josselin itself have a municipal campsite, I have tried searching but have come up with a blank so far.

No havent stayed there but it is the only one listed in the Caravan Club Book and it is listed under Josselin.

Cant help with your other queries but at least that is a start.

Hi MBDixon

I'm 95% sure that Camping Bas de La Lande was a site that we stayed at about 7 years ago as a stopover near the N24. The description in CC "Caravan Europe 1" (2006) guide sounds right and it is the only site listed under Josselin. "Caravan Europe 1" says that the site is open 1 April to 31 October.

The site was very quiet when we visited in late July but it was clean and well managed with a modern sanitary block. We were given a very large hedged pitch and stayed for several days longer than we had intended.

There is a lovely footpath walk along the river to the town of Josselin and I followed this, sans-kids!!! several mornings. On arriving in the town I then bought a copy of "The Times" which I then read over coffee at a table outside the cafe in the town square.

Josselin is a quaint little town with old buildings and a lovely "witch-hat" towered chateau overlooking the river and which housed, at that time a doll museum". It had a weekly street market which I browsed on one of my early morning strolls.

Regards
Tim

Hi (again)mbdixon

I've only just looked at the www.guegon.fr website mentioned above and I'm even more certain that Bas de landes is the campsite we stayed at a few years ago. I'll, therefore, say a little more. It sloped up from the road and was surrounded by pleasant countryside. Our single pitch at the top of the site was so long that we could keep our 7.2 m 'van 4.5 m car hooked-up. The individual pitch was surrounded by a high hedge all round which made it very private. The toilet block was modern and positioned at the lower, road end of the site. You can see it on the right of the website photo of the entrance, near the reception office. The other photos of the site on the website are how I remember it so I can highly recommend it now I'm sure it's the right one.

Regards
Tim
