Have a look at the mappy or viamichelin websites and they will give you the exact amount tolls will be  - I've found them to be completley accurate. I think the sites also allow you to plan a route avoiding tolls.

If you go through Belgium, Luxembourg and then through Germany to Basel you only need to go on French toll roads for a very short stretch - try Via Michelin

I got a list of European toll roads and charges on the AA site (search aa toll roads). It is brilliant for planning your route.

We did that 2 years ago and it took a long time to get into Switzerland using the motorways in France so I wouldn't try to avoid it tbh. If you want to use motorways in Switzerland don't forget you need an annual permit.

We didn't get that as we were only visiting family for a few days but we did struggle to navigate on the Swiss roads - some of the things they called roads appeared to be dirt tracks to our untrained eye. Doing it again this year, possibly on the way home. Still trying to decide.

Try this site.

www.autoroutes.fr

It's seems to very accurate giving mileages, costs, timings with or without a caravan. Very similar to Mappy but much clearer.

Click on the Union Jack icon for the English version.......obviously!!! LOL
