We have been looking forward to our holiday to Brittany and Eurocampindependent for months know and are due to leave next weekend. The problem i have is that the exhaust manifold on our car has decided to disintegrate and i am know having a very stressful time dealing with a garage that isn't very forthcoming with information about new part arrival and cost of part which i have on authority from a main dealer has a £400 price tag and 3-4 day wait for part. Anyway to the point in the event that there were to be any last minute hitches with getting the car sorted out in time has any one got any sound contingency plans and would anyone know exactly where i might stand insurance wise with Eurocamp.

Many thanks

A slightly nervous camper

Ian, you don't say where you are? If you're anywhere near Sheffield, I know a place that actually makes up the exhausts while you wait? They may be able to help? Dunno if they do manifolds as well tho. Their prices were very reasonable too.

We too are off to France with Eurocamp Independent next w/e from Poole - Cherbourg, and we very nearl;y didn't have a car to tow the 'van with. We're all sorted now, and are looking forward to making the trip with our new Kia Sedona, rather than my rather cramped Toyota Avensis!

All you can really do is call the people at Eurocamp, and explain the situation. If you end up having to cancel, then providing you have some insurance, you may still be able to get some monies back, although it is a tad late in the day now.

Good luck, hope everything works out for you!

Thanks for you help. I live in Ware, Herts.
The manifold is slightly different from the exhaust but thanks anyway for help.

What camp site are you going too.

Regards Ian

I know you can change your car details and take another car if you call them.

The bad news is that in the booking conditions is states you are responsible for providing a roadworthy vehicle. They dont refund if you dont provide that as when you book it you know you are booking self drive. You could try your insurance company but since the holiday hasnt started yet your insurance probably wont cover you.

Could you maybe hire a car or borrow the money to get your exhaust fixed before you go?

Ian, I realise now that it's the engine side of the exhaust manifold that you're after, sorry!

We're off to 3 sites. One in Cherbourg, called L'Anse du Brick, a site on the Gironde/Gascony called Bonne Anse Plage, near Royan, then over to a smaller site in the Loire Valley called L'Etang de la Breche at Saumur.

We'll be towing an Avondale Rialto 555/4 with a green Kia Sedona....wave if you see us!

If you're travelling by Brittany Ferries, by the way, they don't need to know your registration details of your vehicle. I've just had this same discussion with our booking agents for the camp sites. Until yesterday, we weren't sure which vehicle we were taking either!
