The Camping Carnet sounds like a good idea - do you need 1 each?

Anne

No, you only need the 1 between you, usually it will be in the name of the main member (in our case that's OH). You can get it from either of the clubs, need to provide your (or his) passport number when applying. Cost is £4.95. They are valid for 1 year from date of issue.

Would someone buy one if it had my name on it or can you only sell blank ones?

Thanks Latecamper

I personally wouldn't buy one with a name already on it, because if I'm also asked for our camping carnet, then there would be different names on each card, and how do you explain that one?

Mind you, I always err on the side of caution.......

I'm really not sure whether that would be a problem, thinking about it.  Thinking on, when we've used it, the ACSI card is generally in my name, and the passport we leave if requested is in David's name!  We're not married so have different surnames.  At all sites we've been to we've never been asked the name of the 'other' person, just the one actually booking in and paying.  Similarly, with Camping Cheques, we leave David's passport, but the Camping Cheque Gold Card is in my name!

Still I don't think I'd risk it!  Or would I ...............?

Hi Val,

Yes, as far as just the name is concerned, I agree with you, there are lots of people who aren't married and therefore have different surnames. But if the ACSI card is in someone else's name and they have also written their address on it, that would be totally different to all the details on your own camping carnet, as that has your own address pre-printed on it.

Nah, definitely wouldn't do it myself, but as I said, I'm not very 'adventurous' that way, I could never tell a white lie, let alone assume someone else's ID!

BTW, did you have a nice weekend in Scotland and a nice break in the Peak District?

Absolutely fabulous, Ina.  We set off to Scotland and stayed overnight at Tebay - we arrived early enough to have a lovely meal (int he caravan), a couple of glasses of wine, and woke up to sunshine at 7.00 am.  We had a 'discounted' breakfast in the service area and we were in Callander at 11.30 am - and a good job too, because it was the Highland Games there, and after we arrived a solid queue of traffic developed past the site!  My sister and her OH were an hour and a half after us, and yet only ten minutes behind at Glasgow!  We put the awning up for them, connected all the services, and then left them to it.  We had a lovely trip back - buying some sandwiches in the Deli in Doune (highly recommended) and eating them in the car, and home again by 6.30 pm on Saturday!   It was all so easy.

The following day I took my sister-in-law in to see my brother who'd had a hip replacement, then over to the Peak District (well not quite, as it happened).  I stayed overnight with two girlfriends, in a cottage with a swimming pool, sauna and steamroom, and a hot tub in the garden!  What a night.  In bed by 2.15 am - and swimming again in the pool at 09.15 am!

It's restored my 'equilibrium'.  OH is in Axminister at the moment, and I think I'm going down to meet him down there this weekend to save him the long drive back home - after all he's working and I'm not!

What about your Grassington weekend - you're not so far from us, there!

Hi Val

Sounds like a really good long weekend. Lucky you, not getting stuck in that queue of traffic. Saturday was a nice day too, weatherwise, in Grassington at least.

We had a good weekend too, did a lot of walking, which is why we go there quite a bit. Friday and Saturday were nice, but of course on Sunday it rained, and it rained, and it rained.....But by early afternoon it stopped and so we still managed a walk up Malham Moor Lane, past Kilnsey, although it was very cloudy and we didn't have the views from the top. Ah well, there is always a next time.

Have a good weekend down in Devon, hope the weather is something like, but forecast not very good, is it?

Apologies for going off track on this topic, will leave it at this!

BTW the ACSI Camping Card and the card known as a Camping Carnet are not the same thing, the latter is the CCI Card, which is generally accepted by campsites instead of a passport. Many sites allow a 5% or 10% discount depending on the season. These can only be obtained by members of certain camping clubs.

Val,

I  have a CCI  card so always leave that. I've never left my passport and wouldn't feel happy doing so, especially when I think of how often the site staff struggle to find the CCI card when I'm checking out!

June

On a couple of sites in Italy this year they would only accept our passports as identity. One site only kept thm an hour but the other kept them overnight so you can imagine I was a bit nervous! Having said that all other countries we have been to have accepted the CCI Card in lieu of passports and often sites accept the ACSI Card as identity.

We don't have a CCI card - but having managed to get into France this year without both our passports, I don't think I'm half as worried about the site losing them as I might have been a year previously!

Quite a few campsites in the ACSI Camping Card scheme have the books with card on sale in the Reception Office. Although it's late in the year if you ask you might be able to buy one there if they have any left.

I booked our holiday last year using ACSI - my card is still intact in the book without any name or address on it - nobody asked to see it.   Definitely only paid the ACSI rate though.

Is this the current year's card as they are only valid for 1 year?

We've always been asked to show our ACSI card at those sites we've visited - and one year forgot to fill in the details, so had to do it before we could pay the reduced rate.  Mind you, it was saving us 14 euros per night!

The card only does last for one year.  To take advantage this year, you'd normally have to have a 2009 card.  I sold our unused 2009 one, on here, a few weeks ago, because we're likely to be using Camping Cheques sites for our next holiday, as are my sons who are going surfing on the west coast.
