Hi, I would be very grateful if you could share with me any fantastic places that you have been to that are not tooooo far from Calais. I am thinking of a few nights near Calais and then a drive of hopefully less than 200 miles. Somewhere scenic, with lots to do and some interesting sites to visit. Any suggestions? We drove down to Normandy last year but with 2 kids in the back of the car it was a bit too far - thank goodness for Nintendo DS lite machines! The ferries over to Brittany seem too pricey but I am still searching for a bargain.
Many thanks.

La Biene Assis just outside Calais is a nice site but it is used by alot as the overnight site / stopover for the late night ferries coming in and out. They do tend to site these very near the entrance.
Hi Benski, although it is a little further than you wanted to go you would find Luxembourg very interesting, with lots of places to visit.
There are several very nice campsites in the vicinity. Autoroute says it is less than 260 miles from Calais and as it is (free) motorway all the way it would take about 4 hours driving time.

We stayed at St Valery sur Somme at Easter which is only 70 miles from Calais. The area seemed very pretty but we were very lucky with the weather. The Loire Valley is not that far to drive to, has plenty of good campsites & lots to see & the weather is that bit warmer
Try Belgium Ardennes, there are some sites around Dinant & Namur very scenic & nice towns only a couple of hours from the ferry. Use Norfolk Lines, Dover- Dunkerque cheapest route by far and shaves 20+ km off your journey time in Belgium. Hope this helps.

I would definitely recommend 'Le Chateau de Gandspette'. Just down the road is the 'Blockhaus', a WW2 museum. St Omer is a short drive away and is an interesting little town, with a huge market on Saturdays. Cassell is a little further away, but very picturesque and the tour of the windmill is most entertaining. There is plenty in the area to keep you busy for a few days, and it is close to Calais and to the autoroute to make arrival and departure easy enough.
