Is the caravan parking area accesable from both carriageways?
We are heading to the Loire next wednesday and will be staying at the aire for our first night. I am using N roads and therefore will be heading north to the aire, from Abbeville direction, and next morning will want to be heading south to Rouen.
Altrnatively, is there a junction just north of the aire where I could join the autoroute for a short distance?

The Aire is accessible from both directions on the autoroute - but you'll have to be on the autoroute itself - and you can't get back across the carriageway to change direction at the Aire - you'll have to go along to the next junction before turning back on yourself. It's almost at the end of the A16 Peage section to the north of Abbeville. We usually take the autoroute out of Calais and then along to the Aire, then off at the Peage, which cost us 13 euros two and a half weeks ago. From Calais if we've plenty of time then we go along the N road (D901 on my map, but it's a year or two out of date and numbers have changed) and on to the Peage at Junction 24. From Dunkerque, though, I'd take the D600 to St Omer, then the D928 across country through Hesdin, and at Abbeville circle back on to the A16 at Junction 23, then carry on north for one junction, and come back on yourself to go back towards Rouen.
Hope this makes sense. We had a lovely quiet night in the caravan parking area in the cul-de-sac on Friday 8th May!
Thanks Val, I have been looking at the map today and have decided the easiest way is to carry on down the peage which is the least line of resistance. After all we're on holiday so why make potential problems for yourself.
I agree - for the amount it actually costs it does make things easier. It's what we usually do - occasionally, as I said, we've done the cross-country route.

I'm sure that you can get on and off the autoroute from and to both directions at this Aire. From Abbeville you will come off the autoroute, go over the bridge and into the aire. When you leave you can just slip straight onto the autoroute heading south to Rouen. My father lives near Evreux, so we drive up and down the A16/A28 autoroutes all the time.

Though it is possible to access the autoroute in either direction, there are notices about not changing direction, because you will arrive at a toll booth with an incorrect ticket. Can't be sure if the notice did n't say something about registering your ticket if you did change direction. To be sure, I think you need some more up to date info.
