No, but I really want to - I used to live in Sweden as a child and love the country very much. We are thinking of combining a week near Goteborg (perhaps at the Liseberg campsite which is actually out on the coast) and then a week at one of the lakes where we can hire canoes etc.

Only thing is getting there - the Newcastle ferry doesn't run anymore, so we would have to get to Germany by boat and drive from there.

I wish, we will be driving up from Alicante !

We are thinking of heading for Asele as that was where we went in February, but got no real plans as yet. Is it true that there are lots of Mozzi's in summer ?

I went to Sweden 4 years ago and stayed at five campsites.
The whole experience was brilliant. 4 of the sites were by lakes- Jonkoping, Mariestad, Mora and Arjang, and one was on the Baltic- at the ferry port Trellebourg. The sites were excellent [Jonkoping accepted camping cheques although I did not have any ].

The prices were generally about the same as the uk but we did take boxes of French wine with us.

We like walking and cycling and found that you could wander anywhere within reason and never saw a "private keep out" notice. We did see one notice warning that bears and lynx had been seen in the area and to keep dogs under control. The scenery was lovely with hundreds of lakes and loads of space.

Almost everyone speaks English

This was the second time I had been to sweden and I will be back.

If you want any more info please ask.

Now you mention it, I think you can free-camp in Sweden, as you can in Scotland.

They are not as "British" about land ownership over there - I remember most of my Dad's friends lived in the countryside and none of them had fences and there was no discernible boundary around the land. Garden kind of merged into rocky heathland merged into forest merged into lake etc -I used to disappear for hours out there and loved every minute!

And like you say, they all speak perfect English. I wish I could live out there.

I believe they have the same 'system' as Germany, which is something like the land is for everyone to enjoy / have access to, within reason.

Sounds like we had better give it a go, generally speaking how did you find the summer temperatures ?  We had -23'C in February.

Apart from take our own booze, is there anything else country specific that you would suggest taking or buying before entering the country.

We will be taking our doogle, I believe the rules are pretty much the same as the UK with the pets passport.

I learnt how to make Kladdkaka (sticky chocolate cake) & hope to find someone to show me how to make tunnbrod, for the wraps. Yum Yum...

I remember some really hot summers - there is a picture of me wandering round the Trollhatten museum in just my pants (I was only 3......and very liberated!!!). Probably wouldn't do that now. But you never know.

We were there May/June and the weather was very good although we did have some rain and in May the evenings were a little bit chilly. A big bonus was the light nights especially a bit further north where it never really got dark.

We did not take much but would have taken tea coffee and breakfast cereals which we take whichever country we visit.
We did not visit any big towns so no large supermarkets
but so long as you shop sensibly price were on a par.Meatballs for instance are a bit of a speciality in Sweden-very good.
Prices were a lot less in Sweden than in Norway and Denmark which we also visited.

Eating out is very expensive except lunchtimes when you
can get reasonally priced meals. We had Elk with veg for around £7 on one occasion.

You will need a Scandinavian Camping card, they do not accept International Campingcards. You can get a temporary one one at the first site you visit or apply for one online before you go.

If you look at website "camping.se" there is a link which explains all about the Card.

If you go to www.visitsweden.com you will be able to download or order brochures via a link at the bottom of the page including camping info.

I was hoping to go this year but commitments here have prevented me. Maybe next year!
