Hi,

will be driving Calais to Lake Garda  (via Interlaken) starting on Sat 1st August.  Have researched previous posts and noticed talk of traffic probs around Basle.  As these are from a year or two ago, does anyone know if there are still problems?

If so whats the recommended route to avoid? (bearing in mind first main stop is Interlaken)

Finally, I expect on the first day to get to between Strasbourg and Colmar so any recommendations of a campsite close to the autoroute would be appreciated.

 There have been road works here in Basel for as long as we have been living here. (3 years) They genrrally don't cause any problems. However 1st August is National day here in Switzerland so there may be delays due to heavy traffic, Basel has a huge celebration on that day. It is also a Public holiday. You may want to factor that in to your travel time.Also the traffic is heavy as people from France and Germany will travel across to join in.

Have you thought about going via Koln, Stuttgart, Innsbruck instead? It's actually quicker according to ViaMichelin, and you avoid the Gotthard road tunnel
