We have been to the Ile de Re three times, and always stayed at Antioche. Its got access through the dunes onto the beach, has a small bar, but no pool.

I have to say that we have had some of the best holidays ever there. Lovely island, fabulous beaches, and great to get around by bike, miles of cycle tracks.

Great market each morning at le bois plage where you can buy locally grown salads and vegetables, cheeses and fish straight off the boats.

Wish we were going this year!

I used to go to St Jean De Monts when I was younger and remember it being fantastic, about 100km north of La Rochelle.

We also stopped once in Les Sables-d'Olonne (50km north of La Rochelle) and I have fantastic memories of holidays in Royan, 50km south of La Rochelle but unfortunately looking at Google Maps all the campsites we used to stay at there are now housing estates !!
