Does anyone here know whether Camping Birkelt in Luxembourg have either gone out of business or switched to being exclusive to holiday companies? I've tried emailing them and phoning and no reply to email and the phone number is unobtainable. It looks fabulous but I don't seem to be able to contact them. Anyone know?

Oops, better update this at least to admit my stupid mistake in ringing with the wrong phone code! I will try the campsite number tomorrow & hopefully get through. If I do, I'll update this - the campsite looks gorgeous and we're desperately hoping we'll be able to stay there!
Did you know Camping Birkelt takes Camping Cheques. Their acceptance dates are between 28/03 - 25/04, 05/05 - 21/05, 01/06 - 11/07, and 29/08 - 08/11, and they also offer 7 nights for 6 Camping Cheques.
I didn't but I'm not actually familiar with how Camping Cheques work anyway. I will investigate all of that today. I have managed to book 3 nights with them today on the phone (having corrected my supremely stupid mistake with the phone code!) and we're not staying between any of the dates you mention anyway, unfortunately. I work in Education and am unable to take anything but the school holidays, so we often can't take advantage of any offers or cheaper periods, though we do benefit a little from the fact that the Scottish holidays are earlier than the English ones. This year, however, we're visiting my cousin in France and she is away all of July visiting other family, so the beginning of August was our only option.
Thanks for your reply. I take it you've stayed there before, then, is it as fantastic as it looks?!

Absolutely years and years ago - in a shared motorhome, on our way to Prague with friends for a four week tour. To be honest I can't remember much about it, we did two overnight stays in Luxembourg, amongst the many overnight stays on that trip - and sites very much blurred into one another. We were only quite young then, and spent more time off site than on, in those days!
We have dutch friends and met up with them here last year - fabulous site. No complaints at all - site is split according to age of kids and we thought this a great idea - teenagers away from babes etc. Lots to see nearby as well. One problem with Lux was finding a shop - there are not many big supermarkets and the small shops can be quite pricey, however, the petrol is a great deal cheaper so its swings and roundabouts. Remember to fill up before leaving.
Just come back yesterday from holiday near there. I stayed at Echternachebruch on the German side of the river from Echternach. The difference in price is quite a lot. A man on the site I was at said the only thing you buy in Luxembourg is petrol and tobacco as they are cheap and he was right. As for supermarkets the local chain in Luxembourg is called Cactus and there is a store in Echternach. As for prices, 2 course lunch for 2 people with wine in Luxembourg city centre was €45 A basic salad or 2 in Larochette, where you are staying, was €20 and smothered in mayonaise, yuk. A nice area though with many waymarked walks.

Thanks for the information, folks - perhaps we'd better shop for food before we leave the Netherlands! Will perhaps manage a site review when I return from holiday, though as Luxembourg doesn't appear on the sites listed for abroad, not sure whether that will be much use!
