Telephone numbers from (to) abroad.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I do this every year and then forget); 'phoning from France to UK on a mob we have to take off the first zero then add +44; 'phoning in France we have to take of the leading 0 and add +33?

Does this apply to all numbers - such as 0800 or 0472 (which we would need to get breakdown assistance)?

0044 is Britain from France, then miss the first 0 (so 01943 would be 1943).  0033 is France from Britain, and again the first 0 is then missed from the area code.  I'm not sure whether this applies to 0800 numbers - we broke down on the autoroute, and you've no alternative but to use the roadside phone, which gets you through to an assistance centre, where they speak English - take the details of your breakdown company and then put you through to them.

The other part of my query related to mobiles - if we're using our mobile in France to call a French number do we still have to do the 0033 &c business. I can see nothing on the virgin website ....
