I'm deliberately looking at the bit of Brittany that most people don't make it to.   AND as the "man on the Clapham omnibus/bloke in the pub" seems to think that Summer will last forever it might be a good choice for 2009?

I have a couple or three sites in mind for the last, relatively quiet, fortnight of August. But I know you lot can do better.....

Very young family - 3 x <6 years. We have no need for gimmicks (we are pretty much self-contained). Sandy beach nearby & basic kids play area are the only basic requirements and even they are flexible. =>100m2 pitches only. Price not a particular issue - I am a Zim$ billionaire afterall!

I'd be really grateful for your thoughts......

VB

And the best bit of Brittany it is too.
Camping du Letty near Bénodet is reckoned to be one of the best sites. Tim will be along later I'm sure to confirm that.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=8835

We stayed here a couple of times. Its a smallish site. Perfect for younger children. The beach is fantastic- walking distance but a fairly steep walk back up! There is a small car park near the beach which always had spaces. There is a small bar/shop on the beach- great for icecreams etc.

The site has a good takeaway. There is a small bar which was mainly used by people waiting for food. The site shop is well equipped but you would need to drive into the nearest town to stock up.

Toilet/shower facilities were immaculate even in August.

Great area to explore.

Has been taken over since we last stayed but by very reputable company who run sites all over France.

We had one great holiday there in lovely sunshine and one in pouring rain. No guarantees of sunshine in Brittany really.

Also please don't underestimate the amount of driving time as I did. It's a long drive from Calais!!

Have fun wherever you decide to go.

Please post a review. If it is as good as you say, it deserves recognition!

We stayed at Camping le Helles on the other side of the River ODet to Benodet, lovely and quiet and walking distance to a nice quiet beach

We've got Camping Pors Peron booked.
See this link
We are looking for very similar reasons as you. The one review on here seemed positive and we wanted somewhere with a quiet, near but safe beach for the kids. I rang up to book and the owner was very helpful (and english). They also gave us a 20 per cent discount code for brittany ferries once we had reserved. They even managed to arrange for our friends to be pitched next to us.

As for the region, we've never been there before and it does seem off the tourist trail but there seems to be plenty to do and see. I've been referring to Frommers "Brittany with your Family" which would be worth purchasing if you have young children.

Well done you lot above!

I didn't tell you that as an utter geek I have done "very" basic research on around 500 Brittany sites. If it had a big water slidey thingy that Daddy would be forced to go down with excitable teenagers....it got binned

All are eminently wonderful suggestions.

Camping du Letty - Was already on my "perhaps more suitable in couple of years time" list. And remains so.

Camping Kerval in la Baie de Douarnenez - Right area. Spot on. Not sure why it didn't make my very short list. Possibly the usual "group/child animations" promise? Yes I know it is low key, that few join in and is utterly voluntary. But from a website distance not for me?

Camping le Helles - Nice site! A new one for me. But I am ruling out southern Finistere (probably wrongly) this year as I fancy the wild & rugged look of more northerly aspects.

Camping Pors-Piron - Was very first site I looked at. Perfick! But what the hell do UKCS reviewers know? After looking at said 500 site reviews on other internet sites......quite a lot meethinks and Rufistar.

It's my kinda place - But as we are on a 18 night several-stop holiday the other sites are on our radar too!

Have fun you lot wherever you end up!

VB
