Anyone know any good campsites near St Malo area? Have 2 young children, 4 and 1 and its our first time in France camping in our tent! We don't want to be too far away from the ferry as have a 10.30 am crossing home.
HELP

Do you want lots of on site facilities? Do you want to be with other English people?
First time I camped in France I stayed at Domaine des Ormes.
It will be busy in high season though...

Hi don't want a site that is too busy but can't get away from that in August I guess!
Pool would be good, beach not too far but normally don't go for the huge sites?????

Are you looking for somewhere for just one night, or for the whole of your holiday?

If for a longer stay, then Camping Haliotis comes highly recommended by others on this forum.   It takes Camping Cheques from 22nd August onwards, so if you're going at that time you could save a little (in fact 9 euros per night) on the normal site tariffs.  It's 40 kilometres from St Malo, - and 9 km from Mont St Michel, which is worth a visit, though does get very crowded.

If only for one night, then the Municipal site at St Malo is probably fine and looks to be in a lovely setting right by the sea.

Have a look at this gem of a site.

I can thoroughly recommend it, we take our children there and they have a pets corner as well as the pool.

Drop them an email, Claire and Philippe are very friendly and will answer most things, as well as using it to check availability. See you there late August!!!

Hi Crissy
We were at Le Petit Bois in summer 07, with our teenage son and friends with a teenager and three year old. It's an excellent site, with a lovely pool area with waterslides, outside and indoor pools and a steam room. Our friends little boy loved the pony rides, which were very reasonably priced. Pitches were a good size - staff were lovely and just up the road is a very large Cora hypermarket for all your shopping needs. St. Malo itself is beautiful, and lots of nice places to visit in the area. If you want to visit Mont St. Michel, our advice would be to arrive early in the day, as it gets very crowded.
We'd highly recommend this site for your first visit to France - sure you'll return time and again!

Would have to agree with Colin, we stayed at Le Bois Coudrais last year for the 1st time and are booked in again this summer. Just worried now that it will get too busy, then we won't be able to get in!!:-) Claire & Philippe are lovely, very helpful, nice family feel to the site and it has a pool which is great. The children even had the pool to themselves somedays last year.
Its really good for getting to lots of places St.Malo, Rennes and Mont St Michel all within easy reach. All the children play nicely together and there is a toddlers play bit, tree swing and the animals. Ice creams, drinks etc and Claire will also cook snacks, meals etc. So obviously I seem a bit biased but we have found this so much nicer than staying at a big busy site.
Hope you manage to sort yourselves out o.k
