Whats the best way to go about booking a site in South Brittanty. We have finally decided on this area, being the first time abroad, we didn't want to go too far towing our caravan.

When looking on sites i am either looking in the wrong places, or not looking carefully enough cos i i seem to find is sites with tents and chalets etc, and i wanna take me own.

Thanks for any help.

Hi

We've always used the Caravan Club so far.  I'm not saying they're the best nor am I saying they're the worst.  I've just always been satisfied with the deal and the service.  Based on my experience from last year you won't be able to book much for  next year until late October early November.

In the campsite guides you will find the telephone number. I always use Michelind and ACSI, but other ones surely will give telephone numbers as well. And no doubt you will the habitual little maps to choose locations.
Phone the ones you picked.
How is your French? Otherwise just use English.

As far as the rental stuff is concerned, I find that may Franch campsites do have a webpage, but that is often badly designed. The season it often not clearly indicated, you have to extract that from the tariff-page.

As regards your question, virtually all campsites are mainly destined for own gear. They just advertise focussed on the rental stuff, which takes a lot of room on their webpages. Look at the tariff page from the campsites you want to book. Normally you will find a few sections there, one (small) part for the normal camping with tent or caravan, a part for cottages, for huts and one for for statics. As tenting/caravanning tariff you will normally find a forfait for two persons, car and tent or caravan. Than extra persons, hookup etc. If you see the word 'forfait' you can be sure that is camping with your own gear. It is a fixed amount for that particular combination of persons with gear and car and at the same time its the basic pitch-tariff. Third, fourth and more persons are charged extra ('adulte' or 'enfant'), just as the dog (normally, just a low tariff) and extra cars.
So take another look and call or mail them, or take a good campingguide and start telephoning or writing.

Good luck and have fun.

P.S.
By the way: you don't want to go too far for the first time with your new caravan? The key is feeling at ease and not hurried. For me it also was the first time this year. The decision was not as much not to go too far, but to take our time. First day east of Paris, one day visiting the very old city of Provins (Unesco World Heritage)and than the Dordogne. After 10 days there (7 at the Vézère, 3 at the Dordogne river) we went to Auvergne, just east of Bort le Orgues for a week or so. Back also a stop just south of Paris and than back home (Holland, near The Hague). All went very well. We did not book in advance, but picked sites from the guide. Feeling calm and stopping as early as I wanted was the key to easy travelling. Setting up was fast. So don't worry about the first time. As soon as you are tired, you stop and set up. Than take your little glass of wine (or Pink) and enjoy.

We are looking to go to South Brittanty next year, like you not sure how to book, we have found several sites via the net where you can book direct. But we don't know if it would be better to book a package via someone like C&CC or Alan Rogers.
