Just been reading some wonderful reviews of this place and I saw it is also featured in the Cool Camping France book. We have a toddler which naturally makes me very nervous about being near the lake. I see from their website that there are other camping areas like the orchard for example. Can anyone recommend the best area for a 9 and 3 year old. It would be nice if they had a little freedom to run and play within watching distance and away from the lake!

Any tips?

Many thanks,

Benski X

When we went in 2006 we were in the orchard, backing on to the play area.  I have seen some reviews that mention wasps in the orchard but we didn't have any problem with them.

Hi Kate and Benski

Just for the record, Kate, I think you are confusing the"O's"  ie pitches beginning with letter O which stands for Orangerie as was, These are at the lower end of the site, and some do back onto the play area/ football field etc. The orchard, which is amongst fruit trees has pitches starting with V for verger., and are the terraces below the chateau. Particularly in mid summer you can get wasps round the fruit which has fallen, but then they have plenty to keep them occupied, Anyone who has a bit of a phobia would probably be better away from the "V's" in August.

Re the kids, 9 to 3 is a bit of a gap. The 9 yr old can probably wander at will, and there is a large play area with football pitches , badminton nets, table tennis, climbing frames, access to canoes on the lake, adjoining pitches O2 to O7. , but the 9 yr old can get to these from anywhere.

You probably don't want the 3 yr old to escape, but if you want a large pitch area O16 is one of the biggest, or O15, they are away from the lake, and get very little moving traffic. Pitches V8,9,10  all back onto the blank walll of the restaurant, are massive, and up a cul de sac , which means they are easy to contain for a toddler. Downside maybe, that on a music night,  usually a Saturday, there will be live music in the resto.. Under supervision, the toddlers play area/ sandpit etc is in front of the restaurant, or there are now a lot of kiddies wendy houses on the lawns in front of the chateau, and in front of the cafe, if you want a beer while you are supervising.

On balance, my choices would be O16,O15,or V30. All big areas with space for a toddler, but a feature of Le B is that there are no hedges round pitches so kids can wander if you leave them alone. On the other hand, there are a lot of "eyes" looking out for the stray -------It is that sort of place.

Thanks Frogman and Kate,
The Orangery sounds perfect and yes, the oldest does have a wasp phobia - he has been known to run into the road to avoid them which is obviously far more dangerous! I like the fact that there are no hedges around the pitches as it gives better views and the kids cannot disappear behind one. It would be nice to be within sight of the play area so that they can play and we can keep an eye on them.
Happy hols!

Benski X

A bit of a late reply but in case you are still reading, we visited Le Brevedent in June and found it a perfect place for a toddler. We loved it. The play areas are just ideal. I didnt pitch near the lake but in the central area which I guess is the wasp zone but it wasnt wasp season when we were there! Anyhow I think this was closer to the lake (we had a nice view of it) than where you are considering but it was still far enough away. As there are no hedges you can see where your kids are heading off to and they would have to pass so many other people sitting outside their caravans and tents before they got to the lake. I was a little nervous of the lake on arriving but another family with 2 toddlers pitched on the side of the lake!!! And they didnt seem to have any problems or to be concerned! The play area next to the restaurant is great so you can sit outside and dine and drink wine whilst they play. Perfect!

We went to Le Brevedent a few years ago when our sons were 6,5 and 2. We thought it ideal for young children - we weren't pitched on the lake but we were not far from it. There was a huge tree at the bottom of the campsite (sort of down the steps and behind the restaurant) where all the kids used to play and congregate - camping near there (and it's away from the lake) might be quite nice.
