Im heading to Vaour which is near Tolouse in a few days, all the mapping routes tend to direct you through Paris, is this a bad idea? if not, how do I avoid it?

Calais, Abbeville, Rouen, Evreux, Orleans, then down the A71 to Salbris, Vierzon, and then the A20 to Limoges and down to Cahors, Montauban, and then Toulouse.  This is a lovely route, a lot of it is toll-free, and you'll see some lovely countryside.  Some of it's 'off-autoroute' but it's a good, quick, and mostly hold-up free road, with bypasses around the towns on the way!

Just returned from a great holiday, Went the Rouen route on the way down and had a nightmare, I have no idea where we went wrong but I over estimated my wifes ability to navigate and it was a long and horrible trip so I bought a satnav... wife relaxed on the way home and it was a joy... thanks folks.

Rouen can be a bit confusing to the uninitiated, I remember the first time we went, pre-satnav days. Then we learned to always look out for signs for the following major town on your route, ie from Rouen we usually hit Evreux, so we followed signs for that and we were fine. But I must agree, satnav does take some of the problems out of travelling, but it doesn't do to rely on it 100%, we still use a map, and also common sense.
