Hi, we are going by ferry from Portsmouth to Santander in August. Our eventual destination will be west along the north coast of Spain to La Coruna.

When we land in Santander it will be early evening. There are two groups: two adults, two adults and three kids. Our initial thought was to find somewhere near Santander or about 1 hour drive west and pitch one of our tents to sleep all of us over night. Not too sure of this now, as getting tent out of a car and other bits for one night could be a nightmare, especially if light is starting to fade.

We are now thinking possibly it would be better to stay in a TravelLodge, F1 Motel type of hotel for one night and then do the drive to our campsite in La Coruna.

However I'm finding it hard to find somewhere like that type of hotel near Santander/Llanes. Does anyone know of anywhere like that, or have an opinion on the best solution for us when we get to Spain on the first night.

Hi Guys we are thinking of taking our Touring caravan  along the coast from Santander or Bilbao for a month..Any good caravan sites??

Not sure how the English version works, but if you click around the Spanish version, there are fab pics.

Between Bilbao and Santander, not stayed, but the bay and beach are superb, and I guess now, things are less frenetic on the camping, fabulous area for a base.
