Hello all,

Off to France in about 3 weeks taking the caravan. Crossing from Portsmouth to Caen. It may sound a little silly-but will i have to take the bikes off the roof of the car when using the ferry.

Hi

I have used this route many times and speaking from experience if you have bikes on the roof and they protrude higher than the caravan then you should book overhight.

 Many of the caravans on this route go beneath the cars and the height is minimal between the caravan and car loading bay. They also place some over height vehicles on the rear (last on) but you then need to wait until all caravans and cars are unloaded before they raise the car loading bays to allow you off.

Surely they would have already paid for the height with the charge for the caravan?  are bikes higher than that??

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm not taking the Range Rover I'm taking the wifes Omega estate as I'd need a step ladder to put the bikes on the roof!!

Again many thanks I'll contact Brittany Ferries and if there is an issue I'll place the in the van as I do when towing with the Range Rover.
