We used Norfolkline in May to go to Belgium. Was perfectly acceptable.

However, what we didn't factor in to our trip, was that Dunkerque (Ferry  port) is not that further North from Calais, in driving terms, but is a heck of a difference time wise when the ferry crossing takes longer. This, and the cross channel time difference, made us quite late to our first stopover. (Bruges) It is quicker to sail to Calais and drive the extra few miles.

We're going to the Loire for 14 nights but we're staying a B&B first and last night most of the way there as we don't fancy arriving at the campsite at 6pm and having to pitch a tent or the panic to get the tent down etc and in time to get across France to catch a ferry.

The slightly extra distance is offset by alot cheaper than other crossings I looked at.

Have used them a few times and found them OK but food a bit `iffy`, i.e. rubber eggs with breakfast! We find that Dunkerque is too far north, as we tend to holiday in the Vendee or further south so it is a long haul from there.

We no sooner get off the ferry in Dunkerque and we are passing the slip road from Calais. I think Dunkerque is about 10 minutes driving time further north.
