Hi we're hoping to take our 2 boys, who are 2 and 5, camping in Brittany this summer. We are not familiar with the area, but in having a look feel like Carnac would provide the right mix of culture, leisure and beaches. We would like to know of some good campsites as there seems to be so much choice. We are both comfortable with speaking french and have all our own equipment. We would prefer something family friendly, nothing too organised, but maybe with a swimming pool and play area for the kids.

Hi,

We have stayed at La Grande Metairie, a Castelles site which is quite literally accross the road from the stones and short bike ride into Carnac itself.

An excellent location and ideal for a young family.

Hi we are off to Carnac again. Same campsite for the last ten years. Its about a 1 mile from the town next door to La Grande Metairie, its a smallish site of about 250 pitches and we love it. French/English/Irish/Dutch people and it just feels very safe when we were bringing the kids up, now 11 and 16 years old.

Good luck

We've just come back from Camping Kervillor at La Trinite Sur Mer, and I agree with the above. Its a fine site with lots to do for kids. Its walking distance from the bustling port and less than five minutes drive to Carnac. We also had a look around some of the other local sites and Les Druids seems pretty nice too.

We've stayed in Carnac for years, absolutely love the place! For absolutely top notch camping on a v.large site with loads of facilities for the whole family (excellent water park, animals, pony rides on site, zip wires, bars, discos etc.etc.) then go to La Grande Metairie - you pay top whack too is the only downside!

We have also stayed at Le Moustoir which is definitely a star down from the Grande Metairie but is still very nice and is in amongst the standing stones still - so quiet and you can cycle out into the countryside etc.

With both of these sites you have to get in the car to go to any of the nearby beaches (of which there are loads to choose from - I recommend trying out Trinite sur mer and also travelling up to the Quiberon peninsula, where on one side it's really calm, and on the other there are amazing atlantic rollers for some awesome body boarding.. but I digress!).

Camping Les Druides is just a walk away from the beach, we haven't camped there preferring to stay up near the stones, but we had a quick look around and it looks very nice and well equipped though being closer to the town and beach I'm not sure how quiet it may be at night? Just a thought.

We went last year, lovely place!

Stayed at Camping des menhirs (Think thats how you spell it) 5 min walk to the beach, shops etc (we don't like driving every where) also to the supermarket, but usually drive there so as to carry all the shopping! Its not a massive site, but great for the pools etc used by the camping and caravan club too so you know its clean and good quality, theres a review on my profile.
