We will be towing to Bavaria early Sept. and thought to take the route via Belgium and Germany using the autobahns. Can anyone suggest a specific route and possible night stops ?

Thanks.

My favoured route to Munich is and has been for the last 12 years is -

Calais,
Brussells,
Namur,
Luxembourg..........This is about 4.5hrs into your journey.
Saarlouis,
Saarbrucken,
Follow for Mannheim,
Pirmasens, At this point follow B10 for Landau Pflaz DO NOT follow sat nav it adds 200kms on trip.
Karlsruhe,
Stuttgart,
Ulm,
Augsburg,
Munich.

Can't help with overnight stops but Munich is around 600 miles from Calais and around 6-7 hours from Luxembourg.

We stopped at Camping Waldpark Hohenstadt which is just off exit 60 of the A8 between Stuttgart and Ulm on our way to Italy. The lady was very welcoming and friendly. It's in the ACSI book so will be on their website (www.campingcard.com)

Done that exact route many times (and the bit about the B10 is correct, cuts a big chunk off). We have now changed the route slightly to avoid Brussels as we were ALWAYS held up with traffic there. Instead, from Calis we first head to Lille and then across to Namur and find it a better route. We were first suggested to go via Lille by a lorry driver, and he was right!

Either way, its a good journey, in fact one we'll be doing next Friday on our trip to Austria 17

Whilst I agree that Lille-Namur can be quicker I have always found that the douanes can be rather enthusiastic going that way.

Having gone that way as well a fair few times I think that time wise there is not much in any route and it can really be a case of six and two threes.

There is a new motorway now that starts just after Bercham Services so you miss all that out now.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think the Lille route is the one we will use.

Have a good trip!

I really enjoy the drive, and for me its part of the holiday!

We're leaving Friday morning arriving at Eurotunnel Calais approx 3pm French time. We'll stop at Luxembourg services for fuel and then probably drive as far as Augsburg (540 miles from Calais) before stopping for the night (circa 11pm). That will leave us with a 150 mile drive to our Austrian campsite Saturday morning.

Really looking forward to our trip!
