Steve will try and answer your questions,
1. Depends which Ferry company your sailing with, some pack you in tighter than others, but rule of thumb is no. If your concerned just angle your mirrors in.
2. Never seen any probs with blade stabilisers, and plenty must use them. if you have any doubts just take your time. Usually one of the deck crew will watch you over the ramp, and let you know if there is any problems.
3. If you carry on past the exit off the M275 which is signposted for the ferries, down to the next roundabout. Go round the roundabout (its traffic light controlled) and come back on yourself (so your facing out of Portsmouth) theres a Shell petrol station on the left-if memory serves me right its reasonably priced. when youve refueled just carry on down the road for about 100M and your at the roundabout thats the entrance to the ferry port.
4. I think Caen has a couple of petrol stations on the road out to the Autoroutes, but it has been a few years since i last went through there.
Hope this helps you.
